2009 reserved numbers

Postby Jamie » Sun Dec 07, 2008 6:43 pm

For those who care, we're opening up "registration" tonight for 2009 reserved numbers at http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... nt_id=9624. Since we're trying to re-synch with the new season schedule, this set will be good only until the end of the 08-09 season -- that's the end of July -- but we've reduced the price to $15 as a result. I've sent an e-mail out to the current number holders to give them a jump on the process.

A few extra notes for the regulars:

Those currently holding 2008 numbers will have until 10 pm on New Year's Eve to reclaim their number -- the software's not clever enough to do that automatically for just a month, so what that means is that if anyone picks a number off the current list before that, I'll go in an manually change it to an unpicked option and send an e-mail to that person.

As several of you have found out, MAE uses e-mail address to determine who holds what number -- if you use a differnt address to register than what you reserved the number with, it won't let you pick that number. Once number sales stop at the end of February (so the club can be paid), we lose the ability to edit entries as well. For those forced to change their e-mail address in mid-season, that's not a catastrophe...the registrar has the ability to manually change numbers regardless of the list, and I've cheerfully done that for the few affected by that these past two seasons. Simply include a note with your entry. Polite notes get faster service with fewer mistakes. :)

There's a line in the annoucement about avoiding numbers beginning with "0" -- I found this year that such numbers give the system fits. "7" and "07" are two different numbers to the MAE database...but when we download those for the timer, they become the same. So no numbers starting with "0", unless you can show me a license to kill, in which case we'll assign an "00" number for you.

I would rather give the numbers to people who work hard to run the events we already recognize the people who lead their classes with t shirts and stickers.

Thanks for the suggestion, Jack. But I'm gonna mostly agree with Impalanut. There's plenty of people who come to almost every event, and never finish in the top 3. If anyone's gonna get free reserved numbers, it's regular attendees, not winners.

As was stated, winners get stickers and shirts (or something). Event chairs and occasional others get entry credits. We're also pretty liberal with credit for cancellations. "Membership" is free, and so is our world-famous lunch. Selling the reserved numbers was started as a way of showing support for the club, both in spirit and financially, and I think we ought go with that.
