Chairperson needed for March 18 at Brooksville

Postby Native » Sat Feb 17, 2007 7:45 pm

Title says it. Who's up for it? It's the easiest job of the day. You get to design the course, organize a little help. Pick what's for lunch (within the budget  ), and then sit back and let everyone tell you what a great job you've done!

Now that I am pretty much committed to staying in the area, I am ready to chair an event. 8)

Let's get started with a standardized format as blackeyes proposed in the after 2/17 thread.

Steve, what is the inventory of cones? How many small orange, big orange, small red?

I've got an idea for a course for Brooksville I'd like to doodle and I want to make sure I reserve the red cones for gridding and save some orange cones to make adjustments when the course gets walked.

That is, if I get further with the design than just vague ideas and hand waving.

BTW, where do I find a Brooksville site map?

I think that we need to have a place on the website that we can post the generic site maps for Brooksville and SPC. Unless it they already exist out there and I just don't realize it.

We'll see how this goes. Perhaps I will be met with crickets chirping :)

But... I started a thread at http://www.kickflop.net/autocrossbb/vie" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... ?p=773#773 with the intention of gathering event chair information in a public area (for the next guy!)

Good catch Dave. That answers half my questions. I'd hate to have to go pull all the cones out of the trailer and count them myself to get the other question answered.

Keep in mind that the blank for Brooksville only grids out like 1000 feet.
I expanded it to 1600 I believe for mine. There is plenty more room than the grid suggests.

Bill, I'm afraid I have no idea how many cones we have. I know we recently purchased some, and I went through the paperwork, but all I found was a price, not a quantity.

Maybe someone else knows?

It is in the plans to purchase more, but with other expenses coming up I'm not yet sure when.

Muddy, thanks for volunteering, and it sounds like you've got some good help, already.

Steve, what was the latest at the last Airport meeting?

Used to be that our rental fee only covered HALF of the available space and we couldn't count on having all of that space. I think we've got some kind of agreement that we're going to try very hard to not double-book car clubs... but they could still book a mode airplane club or something.

For that reason, you should design your course to fit the grid. As I suggested to Drew (and I think he did), design in some areas that can be "stretched" easily should extra space be available. Things like slaloms... you can stretch a 3-cone slalom to a 4, 5 or 8 cone slalom, you can vary the spacing of the slalom, etc. I recommend putting two such "stretch zones" in your course design. That way, if the space is available, you can REALLY make use of it.

The "Push Harder, Suck Less" philosophy explained:
Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

You are correct, sir! We only rent half the space, and that's space NOT used by the motorcycle club. They could potentially book two car clubs (and in fact did and we rescheduled our date, July, I think). So, yeah, stick to our allotted space, and follow the Professor's advice about stretch zones if it turns out we're by ourselves. 8)

I actually designed the course to be 200 ft shorter than the grid, but it can be easily stretched. 8)
