I still don't get why parking in grid is allowed. Is space really that limited that we can't keep grid clear? I think it's an accident waiting to happen.

People are finishing their runs, full of adrenaline, now you have to go navigate a crowded parking lot with foot traffic coming from all different directions, while trying to take in your run, talk to passengers, and look over your shoulder to see the time.

I find it extremely annoying. If all those cars weren't parked in grid, it would be a lot easier to see people on foot.

We have discussed doing away with parking on at least one side. I think if we disallowed parking on the finish side, it would help what you're talking about.

Would require us to set the grid up early (like as soon as the trailer is open, even before course setup), set up a barrier of cones at the end of the grid, and probably have people monitor and chase out the people who will inevitably try to park there, anyway. But, it can be done.

Anybody got any reasons why we shouldn't?

As a bonus, it would allow us to move the whole grid a little more to that side, making more room for the cars that are parked on the other side and for people to be milling about, as people are wont to do.

I think if you try to completely eliminate parking on one side, it will push the vehicles on the far end of the parking area too far away, especially once you factor in haulers. Just move the parking area out beyond the grid. Also, all haulers should park perpendicular to the runway, rather than parallel. This will free up space, and the runway is plenty wide enough to have them extent far from the grass. The runway is actually wide enough to park three across once away from the grid, this would keep from having anyone parked too far away from the general area. With the vehicle movement speed only being "walking" speed as it is, this shouldn't pose a safety factor.

I didn't mean eliminate parking completely on the finish side, just the part that's in the grid area. Past that, it's fine.

We're really only talking about eliminating 12-15 parking spaces. Another half-dozen cars on each side at the end. No biggie.

Sounds good to me, besides, we aren't too lazy for 12-15 people to walk an extra 100 ft or so are we?

I would like the entire grid area clear, but I'll take whatever I can get.

To me the entire grid area is a hot area that should be respected similar to the course area, it's not a place for your aunt and uncle to park their minivan.

We could buy some more small cones and put a cone wall between the grid and parking area if you think that would help. I don't really think we need the entire 150' wide area for grid, though. We can spare 50' on one side for parking and for people to wander back and forth to the trailer, etc.

I think just removing one side will help A LOT. Nobody will have a need to cross through the grid area to get to their car, it should eliminate a lot of foot-traffic in the grid.

According to our newly updated safety rules, the only people at Bville are "participants" and as such they are allowed in grid and other hot areas. That said, if we start parking at the edge of grid (and just a few cones should clue folks in), those 12-15 cars (or double if we completely clear grid) could park in the middle of the runway, making 3 rows of parking instead of just 2 on the edges, and none of us softies has far to walk...

I say if you park in the grid and I find you in front of my car I can knock you down with out fear of a 2 second penalty. If I hit your car that is park in the grid what ever I knock off I get to keep. sound fair to me

The new grid thing is better. There was absolutely no foot traffic on the finish side, but it seemed like there was now double on the start side.

Seemed to be less of an issue, though. Much safer, anyway. No cars or people after the finish lane, effectively giving us 150 feet of additional emergency shut-down space should anyone have a brake problem at the finish.

I'm going to incorporate that grid layout into the map template for Brooksville.
