April 14th event at SPC
I forgot to put sunscreen on my face. Dammit.
Other than that, despite the motorcycles and a minor timing equipment glitch that slightly delayed the start, I think we put on another wonderful event. Dan put together a great team of players and even with the late start everyone got 7 runs and done by 4:15. More lunch than we could eat, and a lot of friendly competition. It was great to have so many novices: ya'll come back now, y'hear?? Yellow_Colorz_PDT_06

Coming from a serious, ultra-competitive whiner, that is high praise! Thank you very much!Jeremy wrote:I approved of this event.

+1, I enjoyed it too!Jeremy wrote:I approved of this event.
I'm going to start plugging in the few missing times from run group 2 here in a bit(after preparing a alcoholic beverage of some variety).
I'll shoot the results file to Loren I assume unless you want to e-mail the login and FTP access info to me.

Results!
Results are up!
I expect they will be revised sometime soon. It seems there were some computer issues caused by a power loss. (yeah, we need to invest in a UPS) Charles said he made sure everyone had thier fastest time, but otherwise... I think the data is questionable and much of it is missing.
This will at least give you something to chew on.

OH, I forgot to ask -
Whoever got to play with the bullhorn - it seemed adequate to me, but was it? It was only $35, so if it isn't powerful enough, it won't be the end of the world if we need a better one.

I think the bullhorn is much more directional than some (Dan-O!) gave it credit for. Pointed TOWARD the people you wanted to hear (not toward the sky, not waving around in a circle, etc), I think it was fairly effective.
That said... it might not be a bad idea to investigate how much "better" we can get for a few more bucks. That one's probably close to as loud as we want to be at SPC (where they've requested that we not use the PA because it's too loud)... but that's at MAX volume. Get out to Brooksville where you're trying to communicate to a grid of cars that extends 3x as far from the trailer, it will surely be inadequate.

Both of those S2000's that Steve has mentioned have the wrong times on the results list. #83 had a fastest of 39.170, #49 fastest was 39.260. I know cause the bastage #83 beat me by .09..
It doesn't really change the class results (for the top 3 anyways), just the overall..
Also #02 had a 43.xxx as I recall, I was helping him out and watching his progression, can't remember exactly but I think a lot of group 1's times are wrong, which may effect points for some...

It will
It is
It does
In general, the first run group looked ok, 2nd group was missing a run or 2, and the 3rd was fubar'd
We still have all of the paper results so 100% accurate results will be compiled soon.

A UPS isn't needed if we have a laptop that *has* a battery in it... which is far along in the works already.
Sorry for the water shortage after 2PM. We went through roughly 100-110 bottles. Another 24-pack would have been perfect.
FYI: His fastest time is correct, but at least 1 of Russell Morgan's times is wrong. His 1st run was a 39.xxx and there are no 39s listed for him.

Thanks for fixing the results, Charles.
Jeff, no need to apologize for water shortage - at SPC anyway. There are water fountains and no one should have suffered. B'ville would be another story, especially now that it's hot, so next time we want to make sure we've got way more than we need - like a dozen cases - it won't go bad.
re: the bullhorn. I know at least once the volume was not all the way up, and when it was, it was much louder. Maybe crank it up to 11 and see just how bad it is at B'ville next month. I'll look into it a little more, and have a plan B ready if it really doesn't pass the "runway test."

While this is true, and we do have another laptop in route, UPS units are cheap, easy to find, and many of them are 12 volt batteries so can be upszed on the cheap if it's ever needed. in addition it's $30 insurance. gives us the luxury of using a REAL computer in the future (yes laptops have their limitations) and the warning alarm is huge plus in a noisy trailer, if the software is installed it will automatically save our data too. and allow us to use both laptops if we ever find a need to.. Which I heard that might be somthing in the works. in this case, overkill and redundancy is just right.kickslop wrote:A UPS isn't needed if we have a laptop that *has* a battery in it... which is far along in the works already.
we have a nice PA, lets use it for brooksville. I'll do the announcing if you need tme to. using it in the trailer for announcing times might get tedious.
P.S. there was significant water damage to the interior paneling of the trailer, perhaps the "Rear" window needs to be looked at. I never noticed that before.

Any water damage to the trailer is old. It's been stored in Howard's barn for... probably close to two years. Only time it gets wet is if it's raining on autox day.
More important... I meant to mention this Saturday... there are ants in the trailer. Would probably be a good idea to set a bug bomb in there just to be sure we don't end up with our own ant farm.
