July 12th SPC

Postby Solar » Sun Jul 12, 2009 8:48 pm

I guess I'll get this thread started of by saying it was another great FAST event!! Yellow_Colorz_PDT_06

Many many thanks to our Chair Kenny (who, btw, had to work with out a Co-Chair ) to get this event off and running. I loved the course!! It was a thinker and yet it was open enough to really have some fun driving it. For a SPC course, it flowed well and was just plan FUN!!

We got really got a big break with the rain, found out that less than a mile norh of the SPC course there was some serious rain that we missed, so we all got really lucky! Things seemed to flow well from run group to run group (except getting the last group course workers out :? but thats a later discussion ), and the lunch seemed to be a hit as well.

I really enjoyed the last FAST event of the season, and I hope we have a great turn out for the Awards Event/Club Meeting that we're planning for mid August. Steve and I are working on putting together the event with food and awards, and we should have a date and place (Ron's house, thank you Ron) in the next few days. Just so everyone knows, this is a open invite to anyone that's preticipated in a FAST event, so even if you might not be due an award, we would still like you to attend, to enjoy some food and good times so we can discuss the upcoming 2009/2010 season. We have many things to talk and work out, and the more input we have from fellow drivers, the better we can make next season.

I had a great time today as always. Fun course and the food was great also. Glad to see the weather help up for everyone so nobody had to drive in the rain.

Give Mike some credit...he did quite alot of the advance work...lined up the pre- and post-event workers, arranged lunch, and did much of the course design. Kenny said he had some family issues that prevented him from making it out...but it's the mark of a successful event chair when the event goes off well without him!

Yeah, the rain gods certainly did smile upon us today. I think Mike did the basic design for the course, which turned out very nicely - I enjoyed it too! We had a really nice turnout today and I think we ended the '09 season with a bang! Quite a few folks turned up that hadn't been out in a while, and that was great to see.

Considering my 3 hours sleep the night before I drove really well, but the 41's eluded me.

Big thanks to Kenny, Mike, Bob de la Gardelle for the trailer-towing, and everyone else who helped out - especially the usual crew who helped clean up at the end (where it would be great to see some more, and new, faces).

We'll get details on the "annual" membership meeting hammered out and a new thread will appear - so keep your eyes on the forum.

We need Event Chairs for Oct (potentially a two-day event), November and December. September is covered. Please feel free to sign up in advance so we know the events are covered, and so you can get a head start on your course design!

Damn, it was hot! But, at least it wasn't wet.

The course was great fun, and I found it to be really good for instruction. It had simple and clearly defined elements with quirks that seemed to cause the same problems for everyone... and were pretty easy to cure, demonstrating some fundamental concepts in the process.

The fact that the skidpad circle was accidentally laid out in a decidedly not-quite-round manner actually made the course more interesting and challenging to drive. You either had to make a lot of adjustments to follow the "circle" or make your own constant-radius circle. I'm pretty sure going constant-radius was the way to go, even though it added some distance.

I had a great time. It was definitely nice to see some new people and others that haven't been out in a while. The course was fun, the food was good, and as always the people were great.

I'm sorry if I came off the wrong way, I meant no disrepect towards Mike, (Kenny had told me why he wasn't there); I realise Mike did a lot to make this event happen, and he deserves some major props for this event. I know that there's a lot of behind the scene work that most don't see, and by no means did I want to come across that Mike doesn't deserve some credit for todays event.

We had a great time as usual! The skid pad was a good time. Video's posted shortly. For now, a picture of enthusiasm working the start!

For those who may not be watching the website, I posted the results today while I was home for lunch. I did the results last night, promising myself to upload them after dinner. Then I fell asleep on the couch. So you get them today instead.

I'd like to say a big thanks to Mike for all his great work as my co-chair. I honestly couldn't have done it without him, since we probably would have had no course or lunch to speak of. And then it would have been pizza. Which I didn't want. Sorry you couldn't make it, man, your course turned out great.

Thanks to Brian for fetching lunch, which also turned out great. Lots of positive comments, and the variety was great to have. Didn't see much left over, and by the time we were packing up nothing was even sitting there anymore, so I guess it all disappeared.

Thanks for coming out, everybody. And congrats to Drew for beating me (again) for both this event and the season points. Now I have to wait for Scott to post his in-car video so I can show Kat what she missed.

I lost a small hand held remote for my video camera. Probably fell outta my pocket climbing out of the car. Anyone find it by any chance??

Unfortunately, none of the in car video's came out. The camera shut off as soon as the car left the start. I guess it did not like the vibration. Back to the old camera I guess.

I will post up the 'out of car' videos in a few.

Looking at the results, I realized something about this course: It was a power course. Didn't seem that way before driving it, but it had three "hole shots" (the start, out of the hairpin, and out of the circle) that could easily be worth a tenth or two each, maybe more.

It's a shame my car has no power.

I agree, I could really get some speed coming out of the circle, and if I had a LSD, I could've really picked up more speed out of the hairpin. I ended up having to spin my "tire" so I could keep up RPM's so when it did hook up I was at a pretty good speed entering the circle. My first gear ratio is so high, shifting into 1st is basically hits the rev limiter in 1 second, after 1st gear, it doesn't matter what gear I'm in, if the RPM's in my car fall below 4g's I'm plowing. :?

Power course?? I beg to differ! I had the least power out there ~38hp & I faired ok! LOL
