Fast Logo
Just playing with the FAST logo with a little downtime at work. It's vector so decals and other memorabilia would be easy to reproduce. Can also make the type white for dark backgrounds like the header of the forum...

I like what you did with the cone. Can you post it in the lighter color? I think that would look good on a window.

Re: Fast Logo
Hey, Shakedown.
Thanks very much for your interest in restyling the FAST logo. It's not copyrighted, so I guess you can do what you want with it. But we'd prefer that you not do it independently.
If you feel strongly about wanting to make changes, or if anyone does, the way we usually try to handle stuff like this by either a forum discussion or formation of a committee. Feel free to start a "should we change the logo?" thread.
Also, FAST already has stickers available in two sizes for sale for those who'd like to support the club beyond attending events. We're not a corporate-backed national organization, we're just grassroots independents. We run on a really tight budget, and we do things like sell stickers and annual number reservations to help make ends meet. You wanna make a decal for yourself, go right ahead, but please don't undercut our efforts by offering to distribute them.
Thanks for your understanding.

Re: Fast Logo
Hey, no problem at all. I would by no means make stickers without permission first or without money going to FAST. I was just offering that I could get them done and have decent connections. I'll have to pick up a couple Saturday. I'm a graphic artist by trade and saw the opportunity to make a couple of minor adjustments to the logo. If you like the new logo, you're welcome to it. If you like what you got, I've got no problem with that either. I dig the logo. The cone kicks ass!
If there is any design work the club needs, feel free to let me know. I'll certainly hook ya'll up.
Thanks, Eric

Re: Fast Logo
It's fairly easy to Trademark (TM) a logo. And if memory serves me right it's just paperwork. I'll look into it today and will hopefully have some info at the event tomorrow. Registered Trademarks takes $$$ and so does a copyright. Or is it Copyrights are free and Trademarks cost money. OH hell it's been too long since I've had to do one. I'll find out.

Copyright is $35 and can be filed on line, https://eco.copyright.gov/eService_enu/ ... 1252672853
Trademark is $335+ and I stopped researching.

Re: Fast Logo
Say, I'd be willing to chip in the $35 since I kinda started all this madness. You can also go old school and print out the logo, place in envelope, stamp and mail to yourself, and file away the unopened envelope. This officially time stamps the design. Then just place a © on the logo.

Re: Fast Logo
Not sure I see any need to copyright or trademark our logo. We're not a big club. We don't ever intend to be a big club.

Re: Fast Logo
I'm with Loren...who are we worried about, anyhow? "FAST" is already shared by too many organizations (FL Assn of State Troopers among them) to copyright. Sure, someone could start up the Fun Autocross Society of Tallahasse, Topkea, Teralingua, Tehran, or Timbuctu, and use the same logo, but the probability's pretty low.

Re: Fast Logo
I was "mostly" kidding about the trademark thing; guess I should've replied earlier to this thread.
When making the award certificates, the person who helped me is a "grafic designer"/ bookkeeper, and she said that our "FAST" logo was quite uneek, and thought whoever designed it did a great job. She asked if it was copywrited, and I said, "no". She said that it doesn't matter if you use a acronym, because theres so many of them, ( FAST, GM, GE, etc. etc.) but you could lose the the design of the acronym with the "shaking cone" as your "A" if someone wanted to.
I know, I know, it's not an issue, but I'm putting out my 2¢

Re: Fast Logo
ok. We're gonna pass on bothering to trademark, or whatever. Even for $35, it's probably not worth it. And for what it's worth, the little logo at the top of the forum page does no justice at all to the "master" design - there's a lot of lost detail: the outline and shadow of the letters, the fill of the letters to resemble asphalt;, the shadow and shading of the tipping cone...Kenny did a really good job. But the liklihood of someone stealing it is low...
