I can be the assistant tech to check some of the stuff I know?
Anyways,
A quick question: Is there lose gravel in Brooksville, I mean do we have to use blue tape at all to avoid scratches and paint chips from anything for Brooksville? I was looking at some videos and it seems like there might be some lose gravel out there?

The concrete at the expansion joints is coming apart slowly. But no major looseness. We try to catch the chunks during setup, and courseworkers over the day grab pieces too. In other words, it's not an issue.

That said, it's not pristine swept pavement, either...no worse than driving on most roads.

So people who are anal about their pant...or want to save whatever is left of it...do they need blue tape on sides and on the bumper or no?
I heave heard it's a little more grippier than SPC but by looking at videos it looks like mineral wells in TX which has a lot of lose gravel in the morning and in the afternoon you just follow other car's path...once you are off...you are off! haha
but again, there are some good drivers out there that can gain the control back on lose gravel too

No, not like that. That's Lakeland (a place we may or may not ever run again...).lot of lose gravel in the morning and in the afternoon you just follow other car's path...once you are off...you are off! haha
B'ville has way more grip than SPC, and morning or afternoon you will have the option of multiple lines. Hopefully you will pick the fast one!
You've more to worry about cone scuffs than rock chips.
If you're worried about either, just tape up and sleep well. 8) Once you are there, you can see for yourself and decide again for next time.

cool, thanks for the info dude.
Actually I wanted to know beforehand because I am running with BMW as well tomorrow. I love to autocross and not to mention the setup at SPC was awesome! I haven't been on a course like that in quite some time so I am very interested to see how the course would be like at Brooksville, I hope it's technical and have some flow just like SPC. Although I might need new rears after tomorrow...lol
Thanks for all the info and help guys, looking forward to another great autocross weekend with you guys, oh and let me know where you put me down for work. 8)

I'm not doing the course(s) for this one, but I can pretty much guarantee the return leg will require more steering movement than the BMWCCA course did today.S2K_MoZo wrote:...I am running with BMW as well tomorrow.

Somewhere on the course is a good bet. We'll have the work list posted at the event once we have a final tally of who's there and have adjusted the run groups....let me know where you put me down for work.

Don't forget that the Saturday run groups will not be according to the usual FAST groups.Since it is a relay there will be some changes rught up to the time of the racing, depending on the number of people who sign up. Right now I have to decide if the teams will be three or four per team. I should be able to set up the run groups so we can assign work assignments by team number and just plug in the names of the people at the race on Saturday. Sunday should be the standard. Saturday should be pretty casual, so we shouldn't be pressed for time. Also, we don't have to pack up the trailer so there is some extra time.

We won't have to pack up the cones, but I don't think we want to leave everything out...still some packing to do.impalanut wrote:Don't forget that the Saturday run groups will not be according to the usual FAST groups.Since it is a relay there will be some changes rught up to the time of the racing, depending on the number of people who sign up. I'll be registering tonight. Sorry for the delay in knowing whether your timing guy was going to show up.
Howard, did you try calling me at some point on Saturday?

You can put me down for safety both days. I guess I can do that in addition to novice instruction.

Re: Oct. 17 and 18 at Brooksville
I was planning to set up the Sunday course on Saturday before I left. We should put the timing equipment in the trailer, but it doesn't have to be packed level and balanced for the night. I didn't call since I figured out how to do the timing without changing anything from the usual way we set the timers. I will post the courses in the next day or so if I remember how. I will also set up the run groups once registration has closed. For whoever has it, I need the phone number for the pizza place so I can order the lunches.

Already have someone for safety...not a problem. So you weren't serious when you volunteered to work the course in your entry?Jeremy17 wrote:You can put me down for safety both days. I guess I can do that in addition to novice instruction.
Unless we get lots more people, expect everyone will have to pitch in during the run groups.

Re: Oct. 17 and 18 at Brooksville
This is Saturdays course. Two optional slaloms and out and back on the far end. There are not a lot of cones, and plenty of space so there shouldn't be a lot of cones hit. This should minimize the number of course workers. I am anticipating less than 30 secs for the quicker cars, so 1.5 to 2 mins for each team depending on the number of people per team, determined by the number of people who sign up. Notice that there are two starting lanes and two finishing lanes. This is so you get a team time only. The first car will trip the timer, and the last car will trip the timer. The starter will be sending each driver as the previous driver hits the finish line. The starter will also determine if you jump the gun, which will be a cone penalty and not a disqualification. We will probably use two starters so we don't make mistakes.

Re: Oct. 17 and 18 at Brooksville
This is the Sunday course. I would have liked to make it longer with another crossover, but I used all the recommended space. Larger would also require a lot more course workers. There should be some pretty fast sections, as well as some with some technical parts. One optional slalom, one directed slalom. I wanted to make a course that would take about 75 sec, but I think this will only be about 60 sec. Should be a fairly slow finish to keep it safe, faster sections at the far end. Should not hit too many cones on this one.

Howard, wouldn't it be a lot less confusing for the drivers (two finish lanes? scary!) to just have a timing crew that was on the ball? All the timer would have to do is click the "reset finish" button to ignore the finish of the first car.
Two start lanes would eliminate the need to trip the "reset start" button, no problem there... also allows the team to line up together for some team spirit.
This looks fun, I need to get registered.

Re: Oct. 17 and 18 at Brooksville
Here's another idea to help with 2nd car starting:
Set the PA up, have an announcer who can announce who's on deck and all that... but while the first car is finishing, put the mike next to the timer so that the beep of the car finishing can be heard. That beep can be the 2nd driver's signal to start.
Of course, that would just be an aid. No guarantees. No crying foul if you don't hear the beep or anything. (you can usually hear the beep from the starting line, anyway, if you listen)

Re: Oct. 17 and 18 at Brooksville
I was thinking about having a finsh line person who would put two cones into the non timer finish after the third car finishes as the fourth car is leaving the line. But as long as the people on the team know their order they should be prepared to go to the correct lane.
