Sounds good to me as I really wasn't looking forward to pizza yet again. Let's try out the cold sandwiches. I'll get a hold of you later this week with a head count.

I would be glad to do it. Hope everyone wont mind having cubans again. Mine are different though. I could also do a side...potato salad, chips, tossed salad. As long as its a cold item i can prep it the night before and have it ready for sunday morning. Just let me know.

For saturday events i could make it happen. I have hot boxes to keep hot food hot until it is ready to be served. I dont know how well they will fit into my car...but if Adam Parke is going to attend im sure he could help me transport the food. I would make every effort to be there before 9am but it may be just after when myself and Adam get there..if he can help me. I love Spanish food, I just thought we had a hard and F.A.S.T. <- (Pun intended.) rule that we were not going to source catering services from member owned business'.

Since he's only been to 2-3 events, he's not technically a "member" yet. :P

Anyways, I'm not aware of that rule, but Steve and such may be.

I could see the obvious conflict of interest if someone involved in the running of FAST (the "board of directors" for lack of a better term, I know there are a few official positions, not sure how many or who has them though) was FORCING us to use their business, however I don't see much of a conflict if we get good pricing and good food. I guess I don't take it as seriously.

Never heard of that rule, and I'm not sure why we'd have it. Especially since we've been been eating (well) at Chez Flowers for several events. The event chair picks or delegates lunch...the only two procurement rules I was ever given were "cheap" -- a $5/person target -- and "good" -- defined as no one complaining about the lunch choice or pelting the event chair with leftovers. Never had anyone approach me offering kickbacks to get that $5/person business!

Our only real official is Steve -- someone has to be the point of contact for site owners, insurance, and the bank account. I believe we stuck him with it because he was foolish enough to say he was willing. I'm sure he's open to a coup...might even help storm the presidential palace. :)

Just rumor. The only limit would be that the food vendor be a licensed and inspected food vendor. Which we would presume RJ's business is...right, RJ?

I'm having fun. But if someone thinks they can do a better job, and wants to learn exactly what it is I do as Il Presidente, feel free to speak up. It's no dictatorship - I hope. But that woud be another thread - not a pre-event discussion...

For the record, FAST is a corporation owned by Steve, Dan Rasp and myself. Why? Hell, Idunno. That's just how it came together when we went independent.

We operate as a "not for profit business", but without all the headaches of officially being one. It's just a "business".

Steve's doing a great job of being "the man", and if Dan or I aren't willing to step in when he's tired of it, I'm sure he'll draft someone, tell them lies about how easy it is, and train them as a replacement... just as I drafted him a few years ago.

As for conflict of interest, we encourage it. Glad to help a member make a buck while providing the club with great service! But, for our own liability protection, we decided to limit ourselves to licensed food service providers for lunch.

Lunch

Postby Viper » Thu May 06, 2010 4:48 pm

I still am the "new guy" and dont know all the rules. If anything i would come in under budget. I did not offer it to make a bunch of money but rather to help out our club with another food option. Yes I am a licensed food provider and can provide a copy of that if needed. La Septima has been open since 1995 and have been catering events for much of that time. Again i would be glad to help out if i can, if not its no big deal. It was just hard for me not to offer help when i own a restaurant and club members are always back and fourth on where to get food. I can bet that my bringing food to an event wont make my lap times any better :) Just call me if you would like me to help out.

Y'all should totally eat pizza this month and do the Spanish food next month.

(and I'm not just saying that because I won't be at this event... oh... wait... yes, I am)

LUNCH

Postby Viper » Fri May 07, 2010 4:12 pm

OK. Head count is 80. Ill do 80 cubans and assorted chips. Our cubans are 3.99 each. I put in a 20% discount so they are only 3.19 each. So the total is 255.20 without chips(ill worry about uncle sam). I am going to try to keep it at $300 or less. Our budget is $400 so i figure an extra $100 is good for the club. Again i want to do what i can to give back. Everyone has been such a big help to me. Im just greatful for the new friends and fun times. 80 is the number im going to go with unless i hear otherwise.
Thanks, R.J.

That Clarifies things. So someone setting up and bringing a hotdog cart would be an option if license and insurance was provided. Good to know, since I was considering buying one for concerts and other events, but the licensing I would have would just be for Tampa events. licensing in St. Pete. would not be worth it unless Rays baseball games were on my schedule and, just, no.

I am rounding my total down so its an even $275.00 that way the club has an extra $125.00 to spend on other things. I have to go to sams club again on monday so let me know if there is anything else i can get that we need.
