Re: 14 Nov - SPC
That's a good synopsis. The only thing to add, since so many people seem to be unaware, is that when lining up a car to start, the FRONT of the car should be lined up on the line, NOT the center of the front wheel. It's the front of the car that breaks the timing beam, not the center of the wheel. This gives us marginally more accurate timing for the few who care.
Don't worry, though, we're pretty good at spotting when there's a newb on the starting line and will usually make it a point to stand with you for a few cars to talk about where to release and such.

As practiced locally. There are other places (even in Florida) that line up the wheels, simply because it's easier to judge.Loren wrote:That's a good synopsis. We could most likely get permission to leave it there Saturday night, but I somehow doubt the Monday morning. I'll email SPC when it gets closer and ask. Someone remind me if I forget. Or tell me not to bother if you change your mind and can do it all Sunday...buddy bodean wrote:I'll tow that b*tch! Maybe...

Since Ed isn't event chairman this time, we should be able to just be sure he runs earlyish and let him take his car home and be back in time to grab the trailer. That'll get the trailer outta there on Sunday.Native wrote:We could most likely get permission to leave it there Saturday night, but I somehow doubt the Monday morning. Re: 14 Nov - SPC
Lining up the front of the car just makes sense. If you line up the wheels, cars with less front overhang (like MINI Coopers) have an advantage over cars with long overhang (like Camaros). The shorter length car can have as much as 2 feet more of a "running start" before they trip the lights. Granted, it's not gonna make THAT much of a difference.Jamie wrote:As practiced locally. There are other places (even in Florida) that line up the wheels, simply because it's easier to judge.
How much extra acceleration can a car get in 2 feet? It depends on the car. It depends on how far the start line is from the lights. It depends on whether the start is straight or bent.
Disregarding other factors, and assuming insane acceleration of 1G, which is 32 fps per second... aw, hell, my head hurts already. Let one of the engineers figure it out.
But, nobody can claim that starting every car lined up with its nose on the starting line is not fair. And not listening to people complain about perceived unfairness is always a good thing.

Re: 14 Nov - SPC
I'm not arguing for or against. I'm just stating, for those participants who may run with other clubs at some point, that the practice isn't universal, even within Florida.Loren wrote:Lining up the front of the car just makes sense.

Re: 14 Nov - SPC
I can't fully commit to picking the trailer up, but I can grab it SUNDAY afternoon if I'm available. I should know more the weekend before the event (if the kid made his Nov 7th due date or not). I'll post again when I know more, but just wanted ya'll to know I should be available to at least pick it up afterwards.
I'm........having.........Autocross........withdraws........
But it's all very well worth it.

Yeah. If you're anywhere near this autocross on the 14th, I hope you have an appointment with an attorney scheduled, as well.
Suck it up, support the wife.
