I always number worker stations from the start. Station 1 is the first station that a car passes, then around the site from there. Makes sense to me. I've always done it that way.

I just realized, that's not quite what I did this time. It goes clockwise from the start

Regardless, there should be a map posted with the work assignments. That would solve all such problems. Work station numbers are not a part of our permanent map, thus can't be relied on to be the same every time. Every course is different.

I had a great time out there today, and I didn't even run my car. Excellent fun watching my Dad get behind the wheel.
But, I do have a question about classification of cars. I was checking the results and I wasn't sure how he ended up in his group. For production street tires there are groups F, G, H, and J correct? The 06 330i is the E90 chassis which places him in the H category. Why were his results posted in the ES and DS class?
Again, I was just curious because in my opinion my thoughts would lead that he would be in the same class as the Audi A4, virtually the same exact car, but instead ended in a class of not even remotely similar vehicles.

All 3 series 6 cylinder cars from 1971-2011 except M3's and 325e's are D-Stock (DS) in SCCA, so in FAST, that's H class.

I think the confusion here goes back to Steve, or Lorens?, post earlier about getting the FAST class instead of the SCCA class on the results PDF. It's confusing unless you know the SCCA classes.

FWIW, A4's are not classed (not should they be, they aren't as capable) with the 330i. A4's are G-Stock (GS).

My car is D-Stock as well (97 Integra R) but I run modified anyways just in case I ever actually get unlazy to remove my subwoofer and rear seat

Excellent time!

Certainly enjoyed the course-the start was definitely the tightest turn I've had to do, but wasn't a requirement. It flowed quite well-loved to keep on the throttle!

It was obviously a very well run event...more runs are always better, but limitations are understood.

I always come away smiling from a FAST event.

Yep. We combine SCCA's D-Stock and E-stock to make our own "Class H". The way the results are printed is funky and we need to address it.

I had a great time. Thank you for letting me walk-up register. I've never done that before, and thought I was taking a risk since I was driving a long way, but you let me right in.

Thanks to Steve for letting me borrow his air compressor, and giving me some very useful feedback after riding along with me.

The course was short, nonetheless it was fun, and difficult to drive properly. A half-second difference on a 50-second course doesn't seem like that much, but on a 30-second course, it's significant.

Thanks for a good battle to Kyle Sokol. I didn't realize until seeing the results that we were at the same work station. And you were the guy who gave me a quick lesson with the Trackmaster application (and subsequently a lesson on the autocross course).

Congrats to Chris Meier who finally muscled the muscle cars outta the way for the win in E2! 166 hp for the win!!!

What a great weekend. This event was awesome as always. Thanks Ron and Loren for all you guys did, and thanks to all the others that worked to make this one more in a long line of good events. I think we need to send a special thank you out to all the novices for coming out this weekend. Way to go everyone.

As to the results being a bit out of whack, that is on me. I'm not sure what was up, but I was having a bit of a time getting the registration file into the software. With Ed's help we got everyone in with a name, number and class and everything got recorded correctly. The problem popped up when I pulled out the reports. I should have that one figured out by our next event.

The new wireless timing gear worked great all weekend. I can only think of two issues. (If there were more, no one said anything.) There was one false trip on Saturday afternoon and Sunday was perfect as far as I know, except for a certain collision between a car and one of the finish line timing eyes. The unit survived with no problems and performed great the rest of the day.

I'll see you all in April.

Couple notes:
- Ron's still learning the software and it didn't spit out the best time in the results by class, so I hand-entered it. Could be errors in that, but I think I got it right.
- Peter Perez showed DNF for all of his runs. Ron also PM'ed me that he needed to be reclassed from G to E2. I was wondering if maybe someone marked all of his runs DNF because he was misclassed, or if he REALLY DID botch all of his runs. (if he did, that's a major fail for us, we should never allow a newb to DNF all of their runs) Anyway, questioning that, when I reclassed him, I changed the DNF's to +2 so he'd at least show times. Ditching the two cones would move him up from like 11th to 9th, so it's not a big deal... and I hear he had a great time regardless!

Well, at least I 'd like to think that I didn't botch every run but, stranger things have happened to me Thank you Loren for providing me with a little dignity & the benefit of the doubt. That all being said, I do want to sincerely thank everyone I worked with on Saturday (all the instructors are outstanding) it was an extremely educational experience
Saturday's event was wonderful & I absolutely had a great time! To the event organizers, volunteers, chair & co-chair; I tip my hat off! Well done!!
I look forward to becoming a regular and highly reccomend you guys to everyone I know!

I was running the computer and didn't notice it till the last run. If I would have notice I would have said something. I was trying to keep an eye out for that we just got busy with having a had time seeing car numbers and people asking questions.

Super-relieved I didn't break the timing equipment.

Fixated on the pointer cone for the finish, went around the gate going into the turnaround and scored DNFs on every subsequent run. Not my day, but still loads of fun.

Chris, I don't think it was anything you could have done accidentally. Maybe he did just DNF all of his runs. Definitely something you should be thinking about when working timing. If the same driver DNF's multiple back-to-back runs, especially starting with their first one... just have someone relay a message to grid to get someone to check on them.

John... damn, that didn't go down the way I thought it did at all! I figured you went tail out as you were making the right around that cone... you actually initiated the spin as you were turning (yanking) the car to the left and spun in the opposite direction from what I thought you did.

I guess I learned that 20-25' isn't a safe distance for timing equipment on the outside of a slalom. EVERYONE needs to have this in mind when they're out working course. This is why we tell course workers to always stand and always have their eyes on the car that's coming toward them. John went from being in control driving a slalom to being 20' off to the side and backwards in a little under 2 seconds. If you were standing there, you wouldn't have a lot of time to react!
