July 2011 Event

Postby nc4me » Sun Jul 10, 2011 6:10 pm

Had a really good time today. I enjoyed seeing some people I haven't seen in a while like Ron M. Jeremy, thanks for co-driving and filming the runs. I didn't drive as fast as I wanted to, but I drove and practiced what I needed to do at SPC and that's trail-braking. I got the car to do what I wanted it to do so i had a good day overall. See everyone in September and congrats to Chris Baron for snagging 2nd in E2 and Drew for the win.

Real fun day today! I learned a lot from two instructor rides (thanks Jamie and Loren), but was unfortunately too lead footed to take advantage of their advice. Had a great time anyway, congratulations to Doug for locking up G Stock!

We'll all certainly sleep well tonight! Sorry Sam and I didn't make it over to Beef's -- he was really beat, so we just headed home.

Our thanks to everyone who helped with setup and teardown, extra water runs, picking up extra tasks, and all the courseworkers who hung on through timing problems that made the run groups much longer than intended. Couldn't have made the event a success without any of it.

Pssst...they do these all over the country! Once you get through basic and AIT, chances are there will be a club somewhere within an hour or two.

Thanks to all for another great FAST event. I hope everyone had a great time, I know I did! (Even if it was hotter than Satan's armpit!) Thanks to Jamie and Sam for a fun and challenging course. Also, another huge thank you to the course workers today. :thumbleft: It was wicked hot and you all did a great job. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in September.

Completely agree-great time!

Loved the course, I enjoy long sweepers almost as much as a straightaway!

If it weren't for the timing snafus...seems things would have been just plain smooth.

Two months is a long time to wait...

Thanks for a good Sunday!

Yeah, if it wasn't for the timer, this would have been a absolutely perfect event.

Here is my last run...

5 serious left-turns per run?

edit: just watched Jeremy's vid (nice!)...make that one long, continuous left turn that was almost the entire run.

That comes from overdriving a near dead tire. The RF tire got hit hard on this course. Even harder if you tried to enter the turns too fast and force that tire to act as a brake! (I had to "counsel" Brian about this on his second run, he was doing the same thing... use the BRAKES to slow the car, be kind to your tires) On a FWD car (especially a high-powered one), you add to that some wheelspin as you understeer while overpowering that same tire when exiting the turn.

It probably didn't help that it was super-hot today.

Just got up after a nap and see a bunch of postive posts ! It was another great FAST event. OMG!!! What a great day ! Lots of fun, great course ! After I figured out that I left my keys to the towing veicle, and Loren had to make a mad dash back, I dropped off the trailer and got home, and I crashed for a couple hours, I was exhausted! It was a hot long day, but still tons O'fun. Other than the slight smokey scare I had with the 240sx, the car ran and held up great after a 3 driver day, gotta love them Nissan's :P

rojna wrote: ps, whats wrong with my FR tire ?? never seen it like that ...
Wait? Are you sure thats not a picture of my tires? :dunno:

Loren wrote: The RF tire got hit hard on this course. Even harder if you tried to enter the turns too fast and force that tire to act as a brake! (I had to "counsel" Brian about this on his second run, he was doing the same thing... use the BRAKES to slow the car, be kind to your tires
Yeah, just what Loren said, be nice to your tires; the run he was talking about I was understeering badly, and for some reason I kept my foot in it :bangwall: . Looking back at the video, I'm yelling at myself, wish I could run it one more time agian. My friend Taylor; (that BTW was a complete first time novice), was kicking ass through that turn, with zero understeer. I guess sometimes less input is more ? He ended up finishing 4th in "J" class :thumbwink:

Well I'll have to say that my first season with the 240sx was sucess, I finished 2nd in my class, and learned a lot from the master, aka Loren. :notworthy:

Okay, now for the negative stuff: SMOKERS PLEASE PUT YOUR BUTTS IN THE ASHTRAYS !!! I must've picked up 10 butts in the shelter area and a few more around the grid area. Some may have been there from a past events, but I know that quite a few were from today. I have nothing aginst someone having a smoke, I have no idea who did it, and I don't care; but please help us keep the area clean. :)
