It's that time again..."registration" for 2011-12 reserved numbers opens up first thing tomorrow morning (actually, 1am, which was the earliest the system allowed) at http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frm ... t_id=12575" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I've sent an e-mail out to the current number holders to give them a jump on the process.
Those currently holding 2010-2011 numbers will have until 10 pm on 13 September to reclaim their number -- that's just a month! Previous years show that people who are going to reclaim their number do it early, so this let's us open things up sooner. I've used the current reserved number list to fence off those digits, but in case someone else claims your existing number, don't melt down...shoot me a note and I'll take care of it. After that, it's open season on all unclaimed numbers through 10 pm on 31 Dec, so make sure you reserve your number before whooping it up on New Year's Eve.
If you buy a number and have already registered for the September event, shoot a note to the info mail drop if you want to use it, and I'll see if I can swap numbers around -- usually, it's not a problem.
MAE uses e-mail address to determine who holds what number -- if you use a different address to register for an event than what you entered when registering for the number, the software won't let you pick that number. Once number sales stop at the end of December (so the club can be paid), we lose the ability to edit entries as well. For those forced to change their e-mail address in mid-season, that's not a catastrophe...the registrar has the ability to manually change numbers regardless of the list, and I've cheerfully done that for people who've needed it. Simply include a note with your entry.
There's a line in the annoucement about avoiding numbers beginning with "0" -- we've found that such numbers give the system fits. "7" and "07" are different numbers to the MAE database...but when we download those for the timer, they become the same. So no numbers starting with "0", unless you can show me a license to kill, in which case we'll assign an "00" number for you. Note that clever people stressing the system with zeroes, fractions, decimal numbers, or trying to pick an unavailable number to the exclusion of all others simply give me license to pick one for them...and the club still gets to keep the $20.

Re: 2011-2012 reserved numbers
As a reminder, it's now open season on reserved numbers -- last year's numbers are no longer protected! If you had one and haven't reclaimed it, get to it before someone else does!

Re: 2011-2012 reserved numbers
Supply and demand is an economic model of price determination in a market. It concludes that in a competitive market, the unit price for a particular good will vary until it settles at a point where the quantity demanded by consumers (at current price) will equal the quantity supplied by producers (at current price), resulting in an economic equilibrium of price and quantity.

Re: 2011-2012 reserved numbers
Speaking of numbers... I made a casual observation at the last event that a lot of people just don't understand the notion of "contrasting colors".
If you're taking the time to make permanent numbers for your car, take the time to be sure they are VISIBLE from a distance! Things like red on black might look cool, but DO NOT contrast well. If you don't have that "eye" for color, simply use black or white. If your car is a medium or dark color, use white. If it's a lighter color, use black. Easy.
Alternately, the classic white plackard ("meatball" or square style) with bold black numbers is also very easy to read.

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

Jeremy wrote:$40 and it's yours.
How about you tell me what other number you'd like and I'll register for that and then Jaime can make the swap on MAE.

Re: 2011-2012 reserved numbers
It's Charles's fault. He lost our 2's. So all we have is a 4 and 0. If you can talk Jamie into letting me have 0. I will take that.

No "0" -- it confuses the computer. How hard is it to get some magnetic sheet and make a couple new numbers?

Re: 2011-2012 reserved numbers
Jamie: When I registered for the Oct. 16th event on Myautoevents.com, it populated the numbers field with the number I reserved as my first choice, # 6. Does that mean the number is now reserved for me for the year? I thought there was a time period where those numbers could be claimed by whomever had them the year prior?

Re: 2011-2012 reserved numbers
You paid for it, you own it. Last year's reserved numbers were fenced until the 13th -- if you'd tried to buy one, you'd have been given an alternate.
