I won't be there, but this is what I'd say.
I don't think it's a good idea to change a regular points event for 60-odd drivers because 10 or so pipe up on a forum. Even messing with optional enduros will affect the regular event for those who are expecting a regular event. The time for this discussion and possible format change was before registration opened, not even before it closed.

I have to agree, we're setting ourselves up for a moment of mass confusion, which would translate into a massive time delay. Ironing out the details, setting a plan, THEN executing it would perhaps be more prudent. On the other hand, with the information given, with an "enduro" option, I could call "provisional" on my first run out, due several enduro laps for practice and then put that information to good use and hopefully run off a couple good points paying laps. Of course, I hope we have lights, because it's going to be 10p before we get all the runs in.

I really enjoyed the enduro last year. I'm not in favor of changing the format this close to the event. I also have safety concerns with the enduro format with the number of cars and particularly with the number of novices we have registered.

An enduro at Brooksville would be agreat FROC events mid-season.

Just my two cents worth;
there are two 2-day events upcoming in 2012, what if one of those upcoming weekends became an enduro event?

Instead of March 2012 being the Novice School, March could be the Enduro event and then October 2012 could be the Novice School. Doing the Novice School in October better matches up with the points championship calendar, novices get the advantage of the school early in the race year. And March isn't that far away, it could keep the interest alive for the enduro event.

Anyway, just what I was thinking.

I think having the novice school early in the year injects a bunch of new blood for the new year. As much as I love Enduro's, keeping the inflow of new folks is critical. We always pick up new 'addicts' that stick around and help the club grow. A novice school doubles as a recruiting event by default. Probably a good thing having it early in the year.

Novice school mid-season also gives the novices several events to get their skills warmed up before getting into a new season where it "matters". We have traditionally done the novice school in the first quarter of the year. It's cooler then... and it takes a LOT of volunteer effort to make a school happen.

Okay, no Enduro. We'll do one sometime next year.

Here's the course map.

Man, can't believe race weekend is almost here already. I'll be cutting it close, getting new wheel bearings thrown on the car finally on Friday. Nothing like some piece of mind when doing a 150 mile round trip road trip with some major thrashing of the car in the middle! Now I can start eyeballing an HPDE event at Sebring too. Whoo hooo.

Snort, cough. Sorry, just woke up.
Maybe a little late, but;
You are the event chair. If you design a course that is two laps, then that is what it is. I don't see any reason for confusion, that's the course design. Walk, it, learn it, drive it. No whining.

DO IT!!! :whip:

Y'know...I have been thinking of doing a 2-lap course at SPC.... Brian -- what do you think?

Now there is another good idea ...
Two or three laps on our smallest site!

We've done it before. You have to accept fewer runs and a lot less run overlap. And, inevitably, you have to include either a decision point (where drivers have to remember to go one way or the other) or an extra worker to flag them to the finish.

With the number of first-timers and novices we get at SPC... it's not the best idea. Unless you want to do a limited-entry "no-novices" Enduro, of course.

But, then you're eliminating novices at an even at our most "accessible" site, which is one of the reasons we usually do Enduros at Brooksville. (plus, limited entry makes it hard to meet the higher costs of SPC events)

I have already thought of that and was going to run in by you at Brooksville. I thought if we made it a easy sweeping course we could run two laps. If its an easy enough course I don't think it would be an issue with novices. Lets put this idea on the back burner until after brooksville, then lets discuss it. :-)

From the first post in this thread:
Registration 7-9AM
1. Dave Balogh
2. John Evans

Why does it matter?
