Course Design Review Committee and Co-Safety Chief

After much discussion, we're gonna be making 2 changes to our event safety and course design menu. It looks like Dave O'Neil is going to be working pretty closely with Loren to take over some of the Event Safety stuff he's been doing, including management of our Course Marshal training program and participating in course design approval.

And speaking of course design approval, we're adding a step to that process. From here on, once an event chair has had their course approved by that event's Course Marshal for safety, the Course Marshal will forward it to the Design Review Committee. Then, 3 pairs of eyes (me, and/or Loren, and/or someone else) will look over the course for "driveability" and "fun" in addition to safety. Any feedback will go back to the Event Course Marshal, and if needed he'll go back to the event chair, and so on. We'll soon be drafting a few others to be part of the committee. Our hope is that we'll increase/maintain the quality of courses, expand the variety a bit, spread the work load out a little more, and improve our Course Marshal/Safety program.

Wouldn't it be easier to have the event chair or course designer submit the design to the whole committee, rather than relaying it around? Some clever person could probably even create a portal or dropbox for the purpose.

Yeah it could and we thought about that. we wanted to let the event officials get things as done as they could before involving the CDRC. Thought it would be easier than having 5 or 6 folks at once working on the design.

Yeah, primary design should be done one-on-one with the event Course Marshal. It's easier for the designer to work with one person, and it's good experience for the Course Marshals. In most cases, I don't expect final review will make a lot of changes. Unless the Course Marshal happens to miss something major, it should mostly just be minor navigational and "course flow" improvements.
