Feb 18th SPC DUEL

Postby shakedown067 » Sat Feb 18, 2012 6:40 pm

Man what a fantastic day! And all that trash talking actually paid off. Whoo hooo! Thanks so much Loren and Ed for setting up and running a great show! Already looking forward to doing this again!

And my new data acquisition program for the iPhone actually worked. Top speed for me, 39.5 mph.

It was a long day waiting to get into the thick of the action, and then it was all worth it. I wish Loren would hit more cones! And thank you Doug for hitting just enough.

Thanks for a fun Saturday.

Whew! What a day! (and what a month of stressing about it)

But, it ran smoothly enough. Thanks to everyone for pulling together and making it happen! This is one of those events that takes a lot of cooperation to pull off. Not only did we do it, but we did so with a drivers' meeting that started 20 minutes late, first car off 40 minutes late... and still finished 45 minutes ahead of schedule! :headbang:

I'll type up the bracket charts and post them as results... after I take a shower.

Congrats to Chris! :notworthy:

I heard that !

What a fun fun fun day. Got a chance to flog Redgie, watched Loren race Redgie against my friend Dan who was driving Loren's car. Then had a awesome race against Greg in the semi final. Then Loren talked Steve into letting me drive his car against him for the final heat. I beat Loren, barely, I was pumped and feeling like a house cat that caught a elephant, then found out I hit 3 cones ! Ahh ! Still had a huge smile on my face, and I'm going to take the moral victory !

Great job by everyone out there today, I thought it was going to be a long day, but everything went very smooth.

Kudos to Chris, he was a man on a mission !

Often times in this kind of event, I will target a cone or two (ask Steve about that... I heard he had a good strategy that almost worked). This time, I found that there was a particular cone that just kept getting in my way, so I creamed it! (the outside cone on the exit of the right-turn after the near-side finish line... especially when starting from the other side and approaching it at speed)

Awesome! Made it into the semi-finals and collapsed under the pressure, but still a super-fun day, and one of the most entertaining events yet!

Souvenir t-shirts rule!

Tampa Bay Miatas well represented and I had an awesome time hanging out with everybody.

FAST Duel needs to be an annual event.

Looking forward to March!

I need to thank some very important people for the overall win today. Thank you Howard Sharf, Scott Wheeler, Charles Stowe, and Jeremy Damico for not registering for this event. On a serious note though I am worried about Tim McArthur for no showing. I hope he and his family are okay and that he missed the event for some goofy reason, like thinking it was next weekend.

It was a fun day. The event ran smoothly and it was fun being a judge. I look forward to seeing everyone next month, deuces!

John you had to have been the smoothest thru the first tight turn on the north side starting area that I saw while working your run group. I know I told you that and felt I might have gotten in your head because on your third run you creamed a cone. Sorry about that lol.

I thought about targeting a cone or two, but I had enough trouble just keeping Redgie under control. Then when I drove Steve's car against Loren, every cone was a target !

Hey Eric, I couldn't find where you posted the info on your data acquisition software. Can you tell us again what you got? It looks pretty nice. I have a 3gs. Will it run on the older phones?

Tim didn't no-show. He cancelled a few days ago. Not sure why. I'm sure he's fine.

We actually had ZERO no-shows. We had 3 cancels and two drivers that showed up and chose not to run, but no registered driver no-showed on us. Very unusual for a group of 48 autocrossers!

This event was a lot more fun that I expected. I guess physically running against other cars and seeing the finish makes all the difference. This definitely needs to happen at least once a year.

There ya go. Sometimes it's hard to get people to understand without having seen this format in action. :thumbwink:

Just in case you forgot who won, here are the Results!

My apologies to the 4-5 drivers in M3, S2 and S4 who were "2 and out" and didn't get an extra "bonus bye". We had discussed it before the event, and decided to do it since each class only had two drivers that it would apply to (so, one added run per class) that we'd go ahead and do it. But, it was simply forgotten during the first run group. I did it when I was running the second group, and had no idea that it hadn't been done in the first group until I heard some of the guys working course grumbling about it. Sorry guys!

Tim's fine -- I saw him earlier in the week. He had a family commitment come up, so had to back out.
