Very fun event! I overdrove the entire time. One of these at brooksville with a bigger course would be awesome fun

Re: Feb 18th SPC DUEL
Logistics (mainly communication with the judges and visibility of the finish area from "control") is a bit more hassle on an airstrip course, but it could be done. The course is tighter at SPC, but the "intimacy" of the site makes the event somewhat easier to run. I'll give it some thought.

Re: Feb 18th SPC DUEL
I'm late on this thread. Oh well!
I just wanted to say that I'm all for getting my butt kicked by good drivers and good people. Thanks to Joe Vance and Doug Adams for destroying me fair and square, even while giving me all the advice you guys had to offer. The trash talking is still welcome and encouraged!
As for the event, it was AWESOME! I love these pseudo-autocross events that FAST puts on from time to time. It's fun to mix it up a bit and push us out of our comfort zones.
As for the course, it was really fun, but screaming around in first gear kinda made me nervous about beating up the car. I did really love how technical it was, though. I'd love to drive a similar, second-gear course!

Re: Feb 18th SPC DUEL
Also, doing it at Brooksville will inevitably make the course longer. So, instead of 30-40 second runs, they will be 50-60 second runs. Because Duel runs don't over lap like a regular event (regular events, we can start a car every 30 seconds on pretty much any decently designed course), this WILL make the run-time longer and probably require us to make it a 2-day event. A 2-day event out in the boonies might not be as easy to support as a single-day event in St. Pete.
On the plus side, a full day of practice would get everyone at least 4 practice runs on Saturday. And we could be a little more relaxed during competition on Sunday and maybe have a little more fun with it. (taking time to do better announcing, and just slowing the pace of the event overall just a little bit)
The big question is, how many people would be willing to pay $75 (that covers entry and lunch for both days plus a shirt) for a 2-day Duel event at Brooksville? (a poll-worth question if you want to take the initiative, Ed)

Re: Feb 18th SPC DUEL
This being the FAST "forum" I had the following idea for a Brooksville Duel.
Some guys looked to be on two wheels at least part of the time too.
Might have to put in a couple speed bumps tho'.

I loved playing Jarts as a kid. Great game if you're careful and pay attention. They did get a bad reputation though.
Racing... because golf only requires one ball.

My sister and I used to throw them straight into the air to see how far we could bury them when they hit the ground. 100% safety record!
