And the tongue jack broke, errr more like detonated. We were talking about replacing it anyway, now we have to.

John brought up more trailer possibilities, so it reminded me of the imploded jack. Has anyone replaced it yet? I could help out this weekend for a bit if needed (and my truck can probably get under the ball without having to jack the tongue up).

The other thing I noticed, is that the jack's with wheels, don't have the same mounting point as the current jack. Do we care?

Current setup
http://www.harborfreight.com/2000-lb-a- ... 92626.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Only wheeled options at harbor freight are swing jacks
http://www.harborfreight.com/1500-lb-ca ... 67500.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thoughts? Other stores nearby with trailer jacks? Harbor Freight just happens to be in-between my house and where the trailer is stored. Hmm, I wonder if they even stock these locally.

My dad is in town so we could knock it out right quick this weekend...but would like some feedback on which jack to get. Quick fix, or try to figure out the swing jack? My dad is an engineer of sorts, so I'm sure we can figure out the swing jack.

If you buy anything, be sure to save your receipts. I asked Dave (the upcoming event chair) to look into replacing the jack. If both of you are working the same problem from different ends, we could end up with two and need to return one.

I'll email Dave a link to this thread to be sure he knows about it. Maybe the two of you can coordinate.

Got a quick email back from Dave, he hasn't started on this yet and is happy to hand it off to you, Eric.

Go, man, go! (and thanks)

Which jack? Hey, we don't care, just make it work. If you get another fixed jack, we'll probably want to get one of those dollies to allow us to move the trailer around when we need to.

Thanks, Ed. I'm gonna run by Harbor Freight at lunch today and see what's readily available. Then I'll hopefully be able to just bolt it on tomorrow at lunch.

Cool. What's a good time for you? I was thinking of getting there around noon.

Already have the jack!
Image

Hoping we can set it to the same ground clearance as the current jack, and just not worry about the swing option...but if we can get the swing to work, there's certainly nothing wrong with that.

FYI, they were completely out of the A-frame standard jacks so we pretty much have to make this work.

Mission Completion.

Now, I don't exactly have a lot of knowledge when it comes to trailer maintenance, but when I got back to work, I happened to notice my boss has the same jack on his boat trailer. Isn't there quite a bit less tongue weight on a boat trailer? It's good for 1,500lbs, the tongue weight shouldn't be too close to that right? Just thinking out loud, now that it's done. :bangwall:
