June 9 @ Brooksville

Postby Loren » Wed May 09, 2012 11:58 am

Registration opens tonight!

Starting this thread off with some not-fun, but necessary, announcements:

NEW GUEST POLICY for Brooksville events:
Based on discussion here, we've decided to limit guests to 5 persons to allow for 70 drivers to register.

The following is directly from the event info posted on MAE:
  • We must limit guests to 5 total, so only one guest per driver, and once we reach 5, we can accept no more. (sorry, the airport limits us to 75 persons total)
  • IMPORTANT: Guests must REGISTER SEPARATELY for $5 under the class "NON-DRIVERS". And if there are 5 guests already registered in that class, they will be canceled without refund. CHECK the registration list before registering a guest, only 5 are allowed. Period.
WORK ASSIGNMENTS:
Nothing new here, been doing it this way for the past few months, just reiterating...

With the exception of a very small number of people approved by each event chairman, all of the volunteer work that people do to help get an event set up is just that, "volunteer work". We appreciate it, but if we call each of those 20 different little jobs a "work assignment" and pull those people out of the regular event worker pool, we end up with less than 50 people to work 3 run groups. You do the math. It doesn't work. We need almost everyone in the regular work rotation, and that's one of the reasons that the "traditional" pre-event worker list was nixed. People on that list had the expectation that they would have no other work assignment, and it just wasn't working.

The other reason you don't see the pre-event worker list is that people were volunteering for all the "easy jobs" (timing, grid, whatever) early and being promised that job on the list... and then as the event drew nearer (or on event day), we'd find that we had people who COULD NOT work a regular work assignment (due to physical limitations) and no place to put them... leaving holes in the course worker assignments. Couple that with a lot of the people being the first to volunteer for "easy" work assignments were not always the best-qualified for those positions.

So, the way things are done now is simple: You put your work position request on your registration. If you have physical limitations, you list those in the comments of your registration (every time... don't expect us to remember). Then, after pre-registration is closed, we will work out the run/work groups and assign workers based on:
  1. The Club's Needs - Qualifications
  2. The Driver's Needs - Physical Limitations, etc.
  3. The Driver's Requests - Yes, that's our last priority. Sorry.

Well said Loren.

If we don't have a chair for Brooksville, I will do it. Though I will want to do a pin turn course again, but the pin turn will be much much more friendly. I'm looking at a longer turn around and a different course than last time. My course idea will be fun, "I hope".

Basically what I'm saying is, "if you didn't like the pin turn" at the last Brookville event (cough cough Jamie) ;) . Then please by all means, if someone else has something in mind, please feel free to design a course and be the chair of the event. 8-)

EDIT: After reading this post it sounds almost threatening, by all means it's not. If anyone else wants to chair this event, it's still open. If not, then I will do it. :)

And I'd like to also point out that, if you show up at the gate with your cancelled guest, we will not be able to permit entry. So, please be very careful when signing up...

Just so ya know... anything like that pin turn isn't likely to make it past the design committee again anytime soon. :king:

Yup, I totally understand, but I have an idea that might just get the design committee to think otherwise. To be continued ......

Pin turns suck. Get your fill, though...I'll be away this summer, so it won't cause me pain. ;)

I just registered for Brooksville and I am having trouble in doing so. At this point I can only do it from an iPad and for whatever reason it will not allow me to register my number request of 111. Would somebody please do so? Thank you.

Upon further review I see now why I couldn't register for 111, it seems as if someone else has already done so. This begs they question as to how that happened since I bought and paid for 111. Should our registration prevent this? I don't mean to be territorial but I would like my number.

I think perm numbers are tied to your email address. You aren't trying to register from a different email address, are you?

Edit: Nevermind, I fixed it. Some guest had somehow registered with your number (that's not supposed to be able to happen?). I changed their number and was then able to give you your number.

Registeration just opened and already over 30 people! Get in while you can!

My little reminders have worked wonders toward my ability to get registered on time.

Charles is one of the 5 guests. Is that an error, Charles... or are you coming to WATCH an autocross?

Looks like I'm chairing this event, and Dan will be my co-chair if he gets registered in time. :)

Need someone to tow the trailer, please let me know. :notworthy:

Once registration is full or closes (what ever comes first) I will post the workers doing setup, tech, and any other assignment that may require you to be there early.

The course will not have another pin turn, but I'm thinking of something different for the turn around at the back end of the course other than a 180º turn.

No matter how you cut it, you have to turn a car around in about 100-125 feet of runway width. :) In other words: a 180-degree turn is required.

For the record, a 100' diameter turn is a 50' radius turn... a 45' turn radius is considered by many in the know to be a "minimum" turn radius. So, the MAXIMUM turn radius available for a turn-around on a 150' wide airstrip (Brooksville) isn't much more than the minimum for a "proper" autocross course.

So, you can find creative ways to "stealth" the line that allows a nice wide radius... but please don't ELIMINATE that line.
