It's a little out of the way, however, I have been dealing with Ocala Speedway on some other projects I'm working on and it's pretty affordable (~20 car break even) it's a pretty good opertunity to use a real racetrack and they have lights if the event ran late. look at the attached picture, the layout can be configured several ways, I've run Rallycrosses and autocrosses on ovals before and it works out REALLY well

600ft main straight and 75' wide track to give you a scale.

What you think?

intmo has done a bunch of events there.

Wes Hetrick is a member and he comes to most of the SCCA events, he could probably tell you what works best there.

Wow, I watched their videos... I think my IQ dropped. although if that's the reputation we need to live up to we will be fine.

it does give you a feel for the size... It's big. and anyone that's driven ovals knows how the banking really creates a darn safe enviornment. when not hit by another car you allways spin "down"

Looks like a neat site. Our insurance req's may limit it, though: 50ft. between active course and a barrier. 75 foot wide track, with wall, means 25 feet of "usable" space. I hope I'm misinterpreting something here, but I dunno... :? Lemme double check.

Not always. I vividly remember an Alfa driver standing on the brakes and spinning up the bank at an SCCA event on the Nashville Speedway. Nose-first into the wall. Granted, if he'd let go of the brake, he'd have been fine...but we have to design for brain fade.

True.. I ain't too smart. but watching full lock on hand on the wheel driving just sucks all the lifeforce out of me.

For the distance issue.. when going straight can't the course get within 25 ft of an object? the infield roads are open to do whatever (plenty of room) so you keep them in the racing line in the corners and 25 feet off after track out. by putting some jogs mid corner or using the infield crossover the speeds can be kept down with the infield being used for the higher speed slalom stuff. as long as they are not spinning on the grass toward the light poles you are fine.

I think Loren has a copy of one of the rally crosses we put on up north @ grandview speedway. even on dirt (mud after the water truck wet it down) it was very safe. and fun. I spun once there and just slid to the apron. hitting a wall is really only a problem when another car puts you there.

A man once told me... "The walls... they are just in your head"

That sounds like something Dubler would say.

The "Push Harder, Suck Less" philosophy explained:
Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

K and K requires for events sites (edited):

Permanent physical obstructions may not be closer than 25 feet to the course in straights, and/or inside turns; not closer than 75 feet on the outside of turns.

Not as bad as I recalled...

I'm to the point now that I just am going to hold events. whoever wants to sanction and insure them is welcome. the consensus is to prep the events sanction to follow... there is enough headache with SCCA. I have 4-5 insurers that usually sanction the circle track events... when I told them we run one car at a time they almost begged me for the business. I'd like fast to benifit off my work but if not. "TKE" has been registered with the state so we can take any heat off a club.

I had to, I was generating way too many expenses to not make it a business venture. the tracks are willing to sanction in a pinch, but I'd prefer to go with what works instead of opening up a can of worms.
