Changable numbers

Postby Asphalt6MT » Fri Sep 14, 2012 4:30 pm

I was bored over the summer waiting for the new season to start so I could start auto crossing the new ride and I came up with these:
Image

It may not look like much, but arranged in the order, it can look like this!:
Image

But what if you didn't reserve a number and you need to change it! BAAAAM!!:
Image

I just used the top file, cut them out and they easily arrange into whatever number you need. I used magnetic sheets from staples, they run through most desktop printers, which means you can take the file and color the numbers for instance if you have a white car, these exact numbers would not work. One sheet is good enough for two numbers (depending on how many pieces you need for each number) with some extra left over. If you want the full size file, just shoot me a PM with your email addy.

Let me know what you think!

***DISCLAIMER: I haven't used them in an autocross yet, I'm pretty sure they will stick well enough to not fall off, but I could be wrong. We will see on 9/15!!

It's not an original idea, but very well executed!

That Staples magnet will stick fine as long as the car underneath is fairly clean and as long as it isn't too cold (which probably won't be an issue...).

And as long as the paint's not too thick and there's no filler under it, no contours that allow wind to get under it, etc.

Very cool. I've seen it done before, works very well.

Since we're talking numbers, this:

(I'm gonna have to look into what happened to the attached photos!)

Main things to remember about car numbers: Contrast and Legibility. Must be readable from 200 feet!

I wa a little worried but after seeing then on the car I'm pleased with the result. The numbers end up right at 8" high and can be printed in any color for the most part. Paint thickness shouldn't be a problem due to the thin Subaru paint (from what I have read anyway). I will have some extra with me if anyone needs.

Well, so much for re-starting my magnetic number business :blackeye:

Noticed these on your car Saturday. The segments could stand to be a little fatter for long-range viewing, but overall, they looked good and were pretty readable.

Been noticing a lot of people coming up with really good numbers lately. I like it!

I ran these style of magnets for like 5-6 years. They held up fine. I wonder what I did with them.

Only thing I did different is made separate magnets for the outside of the numbers and the inside dash. I think it makes the number stand out better.
