Feb 16th Is in the Record Books

Postby twistedwankel » Sat Feb 16, 2013 5:55 pm

A great big thanks to everyone for picking up all the slack today. AND pitching in and picking up the course in record time.

Great course, Brian, with alot of upsets in the results proving to day it was the driver more than the car for sure.

Many of you were patient with some wind fueled timer issues ESPECIALLY those of you who were working the course.

A few of you worked two heats to cover the vacancies from no shows and a couple illnesses. That is what makes this group so special.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. ALL for making this another successful FAST event.

We dodged the rain, Army Parachutists, high winds and a lost lunch guy who Ron Rice lassoed and brought to us.

Another fun event! Thanks Doug, Brian and all others that made it happen. Wind burn and dusted eyes are worth every second of the day, we are VERY glad the weather reports got it wrong today!!!!

It was nice having brakes work on all four wheels, no flat spotted or corded tires this time, even with a spin!

What Doug said ! :thumbwink: It was chilly and windy, but I will take a day like today over any hot and rainy summer event day.

The workers on the 3rd run group had their hands full; a thin and spread out group that were shagging cones left and right, and that was just from me. I drove like total poo, I could not remember where to go on the course after the turn around, and I designed the course to boot ! Not one of my better days.......

Then on my way home I stopped at Publix and noticed I had no clutch pedal entering the parking lot, so it looks like I need a new slave and master cylinder. Had to drive home in second gear, but luckly I made every light and didn't have to stop until I made it to my driveway. I don't understand why a 22 year old car with 270,000 miles would suddenly give me problems :derp:

Thanks to everyone that stuck around to the end and helped with the clean up and loading the trailer. I don't think I've seen that many people help with repacking the trailer before, it went really quick. :notworthy:

INVENTORY

There were three cases of water in one cooler.

There is NO soda left.

There are two dollops/containers of kitty litter now proving Loren's memory "can" be wrong sometimes:)

There is a 3/4 roll of big garbage bags.

I didn't see any paper towels left? There are plenty of plates.

Looked like nearly 2 gallons of gas still in the generator also. Only holds 3.

** Special thanks to Tim for starting to set up the course before the sun rose and Scott and Mary for getting the ice and hauling the trash away. And of course Steve for freezing buns from 7-9am and paying everyone.

There was one or two half rolls left, so yes we need paper towels, and there was plenty of Milk Duds left as well  . Glad to hear there was no soda left, it's good to keep left over soda to a bare minimum. I mentioned that the chalk line cart was missing, I was told it was getting fixed, so lets make sure we have that for SPC next month.

Congrats to Greg for showing me how it's done today. And of course Jason Ball, who shows up now and then to pound his fist.

What happened to Chuck Ray today?

Chuck had some sort of family thing creep up. He had a smile on his face as he was leaving, so I guess it wasn't anything horrible... but, he had to bail out before we even started.

Great folks...great course...great food...great event!

Doug: doing morning setup allows for images like these...can't buy stuff like that.

Only required waking at 0530 to arrive in the dark!

Now can someone explain why I'm having issues with spinning tires on an AWD car???

See you in March.

Results are up.

Fantastic event!

Very challenging course, as it was the last time we used it. This time, I had the privilege of driving it in 3 different cars. 6 runs in John's Miata, and instructor runs in Rick Brillhart's Miata and Kirk Mason's Cobra. It was a course that was much easier to drive in a slower car. It's a somewhat busy course, and the faster you go, the quicker your inputs need to be. Kudos to Scott Wheeler for keeping up with the Stalker at that pace! And the "most from the least" award this time has to go to Greg Antonyants... street tires and 130 hp... 52.4 seconds and 8th place overall.

Thanks to all the dedicated workers. Sorry we left after our work shift. I got chilled to the bone and did not feel well, so we checked out.

Thanks again to Doug A. for the vegetarian options.

I had a GREAT time as usual, and I am thankful that I have such an awesome group of enthusiasts to hang out with.

You guys make these events the successes that they are, and I'm proud to been able share the fun with my friends.
Thanks for all the fun,
Rich

Bookmark for myself....
As far as I can tell, my SRT-4 is SCCA class STX (2013) or possibly DSP (2013)?
.... which as far as I can tell puts me in FAST class M3.

(that took way too long to figure out)

Re: Feb 16th Is in the Record Books

Well played, Greg. Well played.

But, looking back on the info that I have, there may have been some miscommunication. (which should have been handled better by the driver in question)

Ian Stephen (#55) and I think his brother John Stephen both requested a "setup" work assignment. Now, these guys are newbs, and I don't usually assign newbs to setup because we need more experienced people to get the job done. But, John had the forethought to put a note on his registration explaining that he needed to leave the event early, and that was why he was requesting an early assignment. So, I put him on setup with a very experienced person and all was well. I didn't really notice that he and Ian shared a last name at that point. Ian was just another driver who requested setup... I can't oblige them all.

So, my guess is that Ian DID need to attend whatever it was that John needed to attend. He just didn't tell us about it.

Obviously, doing this sort of thing comes across as pretty uncool to the masses! I'm sure our event Chairman, Doug, would have cut him some slack if he'd have just asked. But, it doesn't appear that he did... and so we ended up expecting him to be present to work when he was not.

That's all I got.
