March 10th SPC-Split Event Format

Postby snookwheel » Sun Mar 10, 2013 3:19 pm

Another great FAST event! I ran in the early run group, a well run event as usual... cant speak for the afternoon crew, but I suspect it will be a blast as well. :thumbwink: Great to meet some new folks and see the regulars. I'm sure I left some time out there today, but here's my best run:

Phenomenal event. Already looking forward to getting out there again. This has to be one of the best kept secrets in motor sports.

Where else can you learn, drive and discuss all the stuff that makes being a driving enthusiast fun. Good times! And more to come!

It was a challenging course, especially the last hairpin. This course also invited many to make it longer - taking a wider line.
Things certainly went quickly today, at least it seemed so in the morning session.
I'm curious to see the afternoon times.

Thank you for another great event. I had a great time. The course was great, you guys never disappoint.

Not sure if you guys are ever keeping our eyes open for possible other locations for events but one piece of info some of you guys may find useful is: a friend of mine knows a guy that heads up one of the big local drift groups that usually has to race in Bradenton area was approached by an owner of the state fair grounds about doing dome race events there. Apparently he is looking for additional means to bring in income etc. From what I understand they have a new LARGE freshly paved lot that the owner said he would have barriers put in place and even help with getting $$ etc collected/processed. They just needed to setup/tear down there course etc. I can talk to my friend to dig up further info if it's desired.

Awesome course! I just wish I could have found the line on the S turn. Good to see some new faces and and two prodigal old ones. Good to see Gerry and Joe battling it out again. Royce it's great to see someone as excited about the sport come and have so much fun at this.

Dustin, email me or Steve. We're definitely interested in viable autocross sites. The fairgrounds is one of the few places that's got enough usable space. Autocross has been done there in the past, but not without "scheduling issues". Anyway, not really a topic for this thread. Shoot us an email and we'll see what we can get going.

I really liked this format b/c we had as many runs w/o being there all day. If one did both sessions, then 2x as many runs for the same time invested. I vote to keep the split sessions permanently. Great and fun course design. Most excellent autoX.

Had an awesome time today. Loved the course. Had a blast in my first time out in my Mazdaspeed 3. Can't wait to get to more events again. I've missed it.

I'll echo the statements about the "split event." Love the format. Definitely nice to make a half day of it.

Thank you to Chris for allowing me to drive his car! :notworthy: That car is awesome in all ways.

I'll add to the list of approvals for the split event. It allowed me to register late and still make it.

And yep that last green/yellow cone before the finish was definitely the kicker!

Thanks Rick. I cant describe the how conflicted I felt discovering that my car has much more to give than I can currently get out of it. What fun it will be finding its limits.

Wow! Can't complain about that! 3rd Place in class on my first time out with the new car. Definitely need to work on tire pressure setups for next time.

Once again, another great event.

Nothing special, but first time in the WRX and good enough for 2nd in S3:

I personally liked the split event format. Let the discussion commence...

Note: Apparently I should have been classed in S4...wouldn't have mattered to me. Thanks to Ron for making the last second change.

Now, which car to bring next time?

The asphalt was cold
Tires were cold
Surface was full of gravel
Lost an hour of sleep
Weary from setting up course.
Tires are old
Bad shocks
It's a freakin' Mustang
