Liz and I parted with an old friend today when we traded in our beloved 08 Sti for a new Lightning Red BRZ. So once we get it broken in and sorted out she'll be moving to S2. We'll probably also sell the S2K after this season (I can't switch now and let Bob waltz away with numero uno).

We're definitely looking for any input regarding upgrades of tires and wheel sizes from any BRZ or FRS owners. Thinking about going with Enkei 17X9 with B.F.Goodrich's new Rival in 245/40/17's for our autocrossing.

The BRZ feels very well balanced and really gets the most out of it's modest 200 hp. It's very similar to the Honda S2K in driving "feel".

Check out ft86club.com lots of info there. That seems to be the ideal tire size most are going with. The RPF1's have a +45mm offset( at least the only ones I've seen on Tire Rack) and you may need spacers for them. Rota makes 17x9's in 42 and 35 offsets( wheeldude.com ). Can't wait to see it out there, they are a lot of fun.

Road & Track ran an article on how responsive the BRZ/FRS chassis. They swapped out the eco friendly (and slide happy) wheel set for performance sets, one just grippier and another set of +1 lighter wheels with wider rubber. The results were impressive, but not unexpected. These car appear to be tons of fun out of the box and have great tuning potential as well.

That is a good size 17x9 as tires are alot cheaper in that size compared to my 18"...moan.

Probably alot of good info in SCCA STX on wheels with the proper offset. Quality Spacers get rather pricey and sounds like you might swap to stock wheels for roadtrips?

George B. from Martin was wicked fast on those 17" wheels even before he put on the STX coilovers and shocks and and.

BTW there is getting to be alot of talent in S2 with Vivek and Nils co-driving an 01 MX5. I saw them run today and they were very fast for a raw car not yet sorted out.

Next weekend will be a real shoot out in a few classes between AM and PM.

S2 has "10 Name entries" = whoa.

Scott Swartz won the CS Central title in SCCA last year on R tires. No slouch.

Glad to see him on street tires this time:) Always good to run on an equal playing field.

Since I see SCCA is planning on 4 events this year at Brooksville airport I can justify re-joining for $80 in June as 4 event discounts is the breakeven point for running CS, STX or RT:) Go SCCA West.

Congrats on the purchase! The sheer number of S2/CS street tire participants is why I decided to pick up the Miata (as opposed to usually running my Camaro in a SCCA class of one).
Doug you are too kind - the Miata actually seems to be running pretty well (despite my best efforts). I am however embarrassed to admit I chose 5th gear instead of 3rd for most of my runs yesterday as the shift and pedal spacing is a little different than I am used to. One day I will learn how all the manual shifting stuff works...

He sells his wheel - the 'awesome' - which is 17x9 +42 @ about 17 lbs. Not quite as light as RPF-1 Enkei's (about 15 lbs in this size), but a nice choice. They look a lot like the d-force wheels for BMW's.

Another reason I got rid of my MX5 = Brooksville. I found it nearly impossible to powershift into 3rd as always ended up in 5th. Had to learn to really backoff and use "wet dishrag handshake" to make that shift which really slowed times. Pretend you're making a chess move

I've ridden in Dave B.'s at Sebring and I was amazed at some of his entry speeds in the corners. Due to sheer hp differentials, GT3s were passing him all over the place (as expected), but oftentimes, Dave had to lift mid-corner even after being passed.

This is all second hand, but IIRC, he got a set of RPF1s originally, then went to Kosei K4Rs. (Don't know sizes) However, started with Advan AD08s at 235-wide wrapped around the Enkeis. Research told him that straightline speed was hindered due to rolling resistance. Then, went to 225-wide Rivals on the Koseis. The Advans had greate wear characteristics (balanced car helps), but the Rivals might be faster. Rivals are too new yet to comment on wear.

Whatever Rob is doing is pretty much "it" for S2. Vivek has "fresh hot buns" on his mind every time he comes to Brooksville now

Next up - +20 - 25 RWHP without touching the ECU or jeopardizing the warranty.

Should offset any "too much traction" issues, i.e. rolling resistance and such.

Love is blind. This guy is on his 3rd engine (this one built tough) with 185HP NA + runs a 90 shot of nitrous = whoa. I can't name 3 things that are off the shelf performance for an old Saturn?

Your whisper must be laryngitis, then. For awhile, Saturn SCs and SLs were pretty popular road racing cars, and Loren wasn't the only one autocrossing one. Summit Racing (among others) still has a whole section of performance parts for 'em.

Let's see who can identify that track. These were good times. Dealership provided lots of support (financial, parts, and even techs that became crew members) and plastic body panels were awesome for dealing with racing contact. At the time Saturn had a money back guarantee - 30 days I think? where you could just bring the car back as long as it was undamaged and under some mileage. Went to Runoffs and "bought" another car so that we had one spare of everything - with the dealer fully supporting this. They floated the paperwork for a week, and thankfully was able to bring the newly purchased on back intact and returned it.

This was a true zero option special ordered car. Aquamarine, no AC, base radio, power nothing.

My Ex had a Saturn like the one Ron pictured, I was driving it when we came home about 2am to find someone trying to steal my neighbors truck. We scared them off and chased them through the neighborhood until we got a tag number then called the cops. After I calmed down I realized how well the car handled even with stock all seasons on it !

Thank God you didn't spoil my day by saying someone actually tried to steal a Saturn = Whew!!

I do like Mario's car tho' I think it's a Pontisat.

BTW my ex only ever had a broom. I bent over and she drove me home.
