August 3 - B'ville - Endurocross 2013!

Postby Loren » Sat Jul 06, 2013 4:52 am

Ah, August in Florida. Most autocross clubs take the month off. We used to, as well. It's freakin' hot! But, you never realize how long the gap between July and September is until you try to do it without getting your monthly autocross fix! 60 days without an autocross is just too much! You lose your "smooth"! You forget how to "late apex"! You begin to suck MORE instead of LESS! So, we often do a casual "fun" event in August for those who are crazy enough to attend.

This August, we've opted to do another Endurocross! What's that, you ask? It's an autocross where each run consists of multiple laps around the course! We usually aim for about 4 laps, giving us 3-4 minute runs, which is enough to challenge the endurance of most mortals... and their cars.

Because we've done this event before (many times) and used nearly the same course the past few times we've done it at Brooksville, pre-event prep is at a minimum... in fact, it's already done!

Enduro 2013 Course (print version)
Enduro 2013 Rules

This year, the course was tweaked to be just slightly simpler (to lessen cone count) AND reversible! That's right, because so many people suggested it, we're doing one run in each direction. So be sure to study the course map in both directions.

Registration opens Monday, Monday, Monday! Unlike years past where we tried to put membership restrictions on the event and it ended up not filling up, anyway... this year the ONLY restriction is "no first-timers". At least one event of experience should be enough to help you enjoy the event. And if you aren't sure of that... don't enter. :)

Entry is limited to 50 drivers (25 Early & 25 Late), so PLEASE do not publicize this event anywhere other than right here. The usual email notification will go out Monday, as well. We really want FAST regulars to have first crack at registering for this.

Register Here

The Enduro format runs non-stop from start to finish, but we're doing it as a Split Event, anyway. So, most of you will only have to spend HALF of your day out in the hot August sun! We'll be doing lunch, too. All without stopping the event. It's not as crazy as it sounds. For everyone but the driver on course, doing 3+ minute runs make the entire event seem to move in slow-motion. That's what makes gives it a great "relaxed" atmosphere that's so good for mid-summer.

Be sure to pay particular attention to the registration times. The late session is starting a little earlier than usual this time because we're trying to wrap things up and be gone by 4pm!

PS: We're working on a T-shirt design...

Need some kind soul with a truck to haul the trailer. Anybody?

Also, FYI, John Evans will be co-chairing this event. He's cool like that.

And, I forgot to mention above, but don't bother requesting a timing, grid, tech or starter work assignment. Almost EVERYBODY will have to work course. With a worker pool of no more than 25 to work 3 hours... and trying to keep work sessions to 45 minutes... with 4 single-person worker stations and a flagger... that all requires 20 workers. Doesn't leave a lot extra.

Tech is done at/near the starting line before the first run and can be done by the group of drivers on grid. They can also handle gridding themselves. If we can't get a car up to the starting line every 3 minutes, something is wrong! Timing will handle starting duties. "Yo, start already!"

FART STAINS!!!!

That's my last day of school, and thesis project presentation so I can't play. I love this type of event.

I can tow the trailer and weep....

Thanks, Ed. Any chance you could be there early and be the first car out at 9:30?

Should have done a forward/reverse, enduro version of the ol' Kobayashi Maru.
Those gymkhana-loving kooks would be happy as well.

Am I okay to sign up for both the early and late session? I try to do this for as much seat time as possible, but I understand if I shouldn't as there is a limited number of slots.

Let's wait a while before doing that. If it looks like the event isn't going to fill up, we don't mind if you do both. Just wait until near the end of pre-registration. I'll caution you that it will make for a very long day! The few of us who have to be there all day to run things plan on spending 3/4 of our time sitting in the shade sipping Cherry Coke and listening to Reggae!

Yeah I figured, for now I'll just sign up for the early session, but an afternoon filled with reggae sounds fine to me. Oh and just so I'm clear when exactly would the end of pre-registration be?

It's stated on the bottom of the event info page. Somewhere around 10 days prior to event date.

The 24 entries includes 3 guests, so there are still a few early session driver slots available. (not many)

The afternoon is wide open!

Time for the Traditional Enduro Trash Talk!

This will be my last event driving John's MX-5. Last year I drove my '93 Miata on 175/70-14 all-season tires and finished behind Doug by a mere 4/10 per lap. He's so intimidated that he's not even gonna show up this year! I'm gunning for FTD this time. Scott and Mary are gonna choke under this tremendous pressure that I'm placing on them.

And, John... this is your final exam.
