Post 9 Nov Event at SPC
An awesome morning spent pushing way to hard! It was a SPC fantastic course for low-powered, light-weight cars. But, I turned into a frustration exercise in futility.
I did get to ride in some front-wheel drive turbos today, hat off to anyone who masters one of those. Mario, I wish I could have kept up with you today.

I was one of those fwd turbos. I loved the course even with bald tires lol It was definitely hard to keep traction in some spots but the course was quite fast.

It was an extremely fun course! I loved everything about it except for the way I drove it! It was a course that was very easy to over-drive.
But, wait... I have excuses! I'd have been faster and more consistent if Ben's car wasn't fuel-starving at the end of the sweeper going into the hairpin. And I'd have been way faster if the tires weren't soaked with oil from driving through the puddle of power steering fluid left by the Briody's Miata. And I'd have been even faster still if the sun wasn't in my eyes when I was on the starting line. I'm sure of it!

Very fun course. I was able to "master" the 180 with Mike and Jim's help, but still never found the right "line" to run the rest of the course. Drew was also able to drive my car an entire second faster than my best time, so that gives me hope that I can eventually be competitive with a lot more seat time.

Here's a quick video of some rapid launch. It's the first run group of the afternoon. I'll see if there's enough video to make a good enough edit f the event.

Re: Post 9 Nov Event at SPC
Fun time!
Course looked simple on paper, but was a challenge.
The pin turn turned out to be right up the Subaru's alley-enough turbo lag to get thru the turn and straighten out before power came in all in second gear.
Enjoyed the long sweepers too-with SPC surface along with the rises and falls-could really feel the car work.
Noticed a few off courses-wondered why we didn't use chalk lines-seem to help most, typically.

A great Saturday, certainly.

Re: Post 9 Nov Event at SPC
I was ticked at my self for coning away a 33.2, but I still got a sticka!, which, as I typed that, I realized was still in my pocket.
Congrats to Tim for FTD! You crushed it!
Speaking of crushing it, I didn't see everyone's run, but I believe Jamie crushed all of us in the turnaround. I watched him roll the back tire over the base of the big cone in the center. Now that's tight!

Unfortunately, I didn't string together the rest of the course quite as well...at least, not all on the same run. Need more seat time....AScoda wrote:...I believe Jamie crushed all of us in the turnaround. I watched him roll the back tire over the base of the big cone in the center. Now that's tight!

Re: Post 9 Nov Event at SPC
For as easy at it looked on paper it sure wasn't in practice. Like everyone has been saying it was an easy course to over drive and I found my self doing just that and blew all 3 of my last runs. I managed a 33.666 but I defiantly felt my last run had more potential until I over cooked it into the final turn.
It also looks like M0 isn't going to be a super competitive class this year like the top tier street tire class has been in the past. No more then 3 competitors an event just isn't fun. Guess I'll just have to move up to a set of slicks and play with the big boys I guess.
It is a "racecar" after all.

Too early in the season to get too worked up about it, but the Championship Points have been updated.

Really enjoyed the course, especially the hairpin. You folks did a pretty good job on the weather, too.
Guess I'll have to preoccupy myself with holidays until the next open event in January.

FTD?! That is a first for me. I find I really like Pin turns...can they now be a requirement at every SPC event?

Great event yesterday, thanks to Mario for pushing me to drive faster all day. That was some great competition!
Congratulations Tim, awesome FTD! You helped my time a lot by watching your pace through the sweeper before the pin turn. I don't think I would have driven it as fast, if I hadn't seen you powering through it.
Typical smooth and fun FAST event. Fun course, fun driving, and fun people. Thanks for all the hard work putting it together.

Re: Post 9 Nov Event at SPC
I think it turned out to be course that favored high HP high grip cars due to the 4 tight slow turns followed by some what straight lines. As I was telling anyone that got close enough I think it's time to replace my 3 year old tires. I broke that subject to my Wife when I got home and have been getting flak ever since. But she will see the light, and new tires, before the next event.jev61 wrote:An awesome morning spent pushing way to hard! It was a SPC fantastic course for low-powered, light-weight cars.
