POLL : your thoughts about an Advanced Driver school
One suggestion we’ve heard repeatedly is that we should put together a school, but for more advanced drivers as opposed to novices. So we’re looking at the possibility of doing just that! What we have in mind is a class limited to about 24 drivers, with roughly 6 instructors. The drivers would be folks who consider themselves “intermediate” – not novices, but not as skillful as they’d like to be. We’d set up exercises to address skills such as reading a course, choosing the right “line,” the ever-popular slalom, you know – the “tricks of the trade.” Just like past novice schools, we’ll have someone to shag cones, so drivers will be able to focus on driving (yeah, that’s right – no coursework!). And of course, the world-famous FAST lunch will be included.
Now it’s gonna cost a bit more than your standard autocross (with such limited numbers and staff to compensate, it has to), like probably around $150, but great instruction by some of FAST’s best, tons of seat time, and a good bit of good ol’ fashioned fun would be available. Just for sake of comparison, a one day Evolution school is going for $250.00 ( http://www.evoschool.com/shop/index.php ... t_list&c=1 ) and students are required to work the course ( http://www.evoschool.com/schools )...wait, what?!
Ours will be a one-day school (no coursework). We’re not sure if it’ll be at SPC or Brooksville yet, but either site is certainly workable, with the known pros and cons.

Let's give this a bump.
For this to happen, we need to see a lot more interest.

I would be down to help. Course work, logistics, instruction. I'm down for the credit.

Just a quick question - I assume that we'll be driving in our own cars? Or is it in "instructor" cars?

Re: POLL : your thoughts about an Advanced Driver school
Any chance of borrowing another club's timers or modifying FAST's? It is extemely useful to have segmented times for different elements if one/some of the geeks can make it all work together? 1 start +3 stop triggers would be awesome and cover a whole course. Not dissimilar to that dragstrip time interval from another thread. Different program?
That's what Evolution's big secret really was. Graphically see where you are improving with a printout. Plus tons of seat time for you and instructors on the same course.
That and the rented hypnotist who tells you that you are great and don't really suck.

Re: POLL : your thoughts about an Advanced Driver school
There's supposed to be a firmware update to our timer to allow segment timing. It's one of the many things on Ron's plate. But, that's not gonna keep us from having an effective school.

I am always open to more instruction. I'm sure Liz and I would attend (driving the BRZ since the Mustang still is a one-seater).

I would like to instruct. Where should I send my resume and salary requirements?

Re: POLL : your thoughts about an Advanced Driver school
"Advanced Driver's School" would indicate "take no prisoners training is available" and Jeremy certainly qualifies for that.Loren wrote:Don't call us, we'll call you.Jeremy wrote:I would like to instruct. Where should I send my resume and salary requirements?
It could be a special circle that goes against the grain?

Re: POLL : your thoughts about an Advanced Driver school
This poll is to gauge interest. If/when we get to the planning stage for a school, we'll worry about who to hire as instructors. Jeremy is certainly qualified as a driver. We don't need to see his "resume" to know that. Nor do we need his "salary requirements" to determine our budget.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but $150 is way out of my budget. Not saying it wouldn't be worth it, though that's a touch steep.

Re: POLL : your thoughts about an Advanced Driver school
Not saying it's not steep, but you do get what you pay for. It's probably going to end up being $175. But, students will get 6-8 hours of instruction in a class where they DON'T have to work the course at all, and there will be 2-3 instructors for each group of 8 students. Plus lunch and a t-shirt. The seat time alone is worth the price.

Re: POLL : your thoughts about an Advanced Driver school
The more I think, and read about it, the idea of a ton of instructions and runs without shagging cones sounds more worth it, plus the free t-shirt. Would the school possibly be the day or week before a regular event ? It would be nice to be able to use the fresh instruction towards a real event.
