Post Brooksville 1/4 Event

I think I'm going to like running in Brooksville. Really love the surface, forgot what having real grip feels like. I also finally feel like I had some actual wear on my 2.5 year old cast iron tires. Maybe a few events in Brooksville is exactly what I need to finally kill the bastards, though I'm not really looking forward to the expense of a new set. This course was awesome. I had an absolute blast driving it. On my fastest runs I was banging on the rev limiter in 2nd (72-73mph) in three separate spots. Too bad those pesky cones kept jumping out in front of the car on my four fastest runs, stupid cones. Not the first time and almost certainly won't be the last time. Regardless I still had a blast. Looking forward to the next event there.

As to what Jeremy ran, that's awesome, had I put together my best run I still don't think I could have run under 50.

If I'm watching the video right, he went to third at the first slalom, and never shifted back to second? Including through the turnaround?!

Yep. The gearing is so short in my car that it worked. 2nd gear runs out at about 54mph so there would have been about 6 up/down shifts throughout the course. Probably could have gotten an extra few tenths by downshifting at the turnaround, but we carried enough speed through there that it wasn't too bad. Using 3rd is kind of nice. The back of the car is so much more docile in the middle of 3rd vs the top of 2nd...

I had a blast yesterday. My second 'rally-version' run shook me up a bit, but it was the first time I really got in trouble with the bimmer. I guess I needed it. Everything seems to be in order after I got under it today.

Thanks again for everyone's help with setup, teardown, and keeping us as close to schedule as possible.

Take away from this event: I really respect the guys in the trailer making sure things run smoothly, cones are called/counted, etc. I'm happy to do it again, although Rob did most of the 'ugly' stuff.

I had an unfortunately timed check engine light on my Friday drive home from work. I pulled the code and it was cooling system related. I checked everything out that I thought might be related to that code, and didn't find anything. But, I didn't feel good about racing with an undiagnosed cooling issue. I'll be back ready to go in February at Brooksville.

I'm not sure how he did it, but Jeremy managed to clobber everyone (including me) and took FTD by two full seconds.

The other thing I noticed from watching his hands is that he's turning in really early. Of course, the car isn't turning in immediately, but he's got the timing and the position down so that he's always ahead of the car and the course. Sometimes, as course workers find out, a little too far ahead, but there's usually at least one quick run in there. Now we all need to figure out how to replicate that....

Cooling was definitely not a problem Saturday.
You could also legitimately blame cold tires.

Jeremy is impressive...I wondered if I shifted too much...obviously this was a better way. Where is the pin turn when you need it...

TD: bummer on the CE light-better before the event that at the event! I consider success as being able to drive home at the end of it all.

Wow. This was my first Brooksville event -- the course was so much different from the two others I have done, one each at TBD and SPC. It was awesome fun! And profoundly humbling. I did take 5s off my first run, but man, even if I doubled that I still would have been in the bottom half of my class. My vehicle needs some work -- on the driver.

It's great getting to see the footage of so many different drivers on the same course -- and getting to compare it to my own really highlights what I need to work on. I'd love to get back on the same course again to directly apply what I've learned! I guess part of the trick is to learn how to apply the lessons to the new course when the map is ready. Can't wait to try again.

That is actually a stipulation at the Sebring Porsche event!! Did you know you cannot be a member of the Porsche Club without owning a Porsche? Even if it's a shithouse. hahahaha

One has to have standards. After all, you can't be a member of FAST without owning a...car. Even if it's an orca.

Not true. You can't be a member of FAST without owning a DRIVER'S LICENSE and some cash, which allows you to compete in events. But, if you can find a schmuck (hi, Ben, John and Brian!) who is willing to let you drive their car... you don't have to own a car at all!
