Trans rebuild

Postby shakedown067 » Thu Jan 16, 2014 3:43 pm

Anyone have any solid recommendations for shops in the Clearwater/Largo/Pinellas area for a 4L60E auto trans rebuild? Looking at saving the Vette and getting back out there thrashing the ole girl. I've got a couple good leads but figured I'd shout out to the forum before pulling the trigger or not. If it's not sold or fixed, she's getting parted out in March (registration due).

I have a guy in Pasco. Built the trans in my impala ss. That was more than a stock rebuild, but it had to live in a 4400 lb car with over 500 crank hp. He does a real nice job on stock rebuild as well. If you are interested let me know and I will pm his name and phone number.

I've used All American Street Car Performance in Largo a number of times for different things on my cars. https://www.facebook.com/pages/All-Amer ... 2323022364

Thanks. I really liked the owner at Just Right Transmissions in Largo. He took the time to walk me through the parts he stocks and what he's done for some of his customers. He even had a early 70's Vette that just pulled out that he had rebuilt the trans and did a manual valve body in.

Car's in the air and hope to start yanking off parts on Friday. Just have to find a trans jack adapter for my garage jack.

Eric, the only real fix for an automatic is a ZF 6 speed.

Yeah, I've been trying to find decent parts I could afford to swap to a ZF6 and D44. Just wasn't in the cards. I'll have to run what I've got.

The bonus with the auto, I've got more foot room. I'll just have to deal with changing the fluid more often and not having better gears to choose from. I'm pretty sure I roasted the fluid when I overheated at the August event. It wasn't long after that the trans died. Didn't even think about that issue until it was too late.

Whooo hooo. Trans it out, just a few scars to prove it, and at the trans shop. Hope to have it back sometime next week. Of course I drop it off the week he's SLAMMED.

As a bonus, I found my two broken grounds I've been trying to hunt down for well over a year. Would never have found them without dropping the transmission!

Hope to make the March autocross...if I'm not flying off to Portland, OR.
