Interesting Belt Harness

Postby shakedown067 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 9:50 am

Came across this on the CorvetteForum today. It's a nice option for those that need some extra support, but don't want to add a harness bar and 5-points.

From the Vette owner, "It's not the best option, but much better than nothing."

This looks like a good quality one. They do help with crappy smooth seats.

I use a luggage strap I got from AAA cheap like $6 + used bonus reward points so it was free. It's lasted over 5 years. And I use it when we travel too.

Note: You still have to use your factory seat belt!!! (So no one gets the wrong idea.)

Really surprised that this one got past Doug...

That's called a "Dick Strap", after 80's autocross training legend Dick Turner.

You can find a few references to it here and there:

I've got one and have been using it, along with a GC-Lock for over a year now. With my height, I was spending most of my concentration and energy hanging on, now, moving around is not a second thought.

Yes, it's true. A high quality dick strap will help you push harder and suck less.

(damn, Doug... you're slackin', man)

A Dick Strap hangs right next to my snap off pants with the optional dollar holder.

For anyone thinking of buying one, Jegs has them for $23 including shipping.

And AAA still has a baggage strap for about $6-10 in colors. You decide if you are worth more than your baggage. I was divorced once so I have baggage and wanted to continue racing.

I ordered mine from Amazon for the same price. I've never gotten the seatbelt lock trick to work, so I'm looking forward to trying it out at the next classic event.

I was going to order mine from Amazon, but shipping wasn't free unless you ordered $35 worth of stuff. :dunno:

Yeah, I usually wait to order small items like that until I have enough for free shipping. I just so happened to have two other items waiting in my cart.

So you can't order two and sell one to Kollar :thumbwink:

So is the safety in something like this not a concern? Should there be a roll-over without a roll bar, wouldn't it just hold you in harms way?

Joe lurker howdy.

It's SCCA allowed for convertibles (while a harness isn't without a real rollbar) and they aren't strong enough to keep you from diving out of them with their plastic clips. Just enough to keep my nose from tipping over. I've exploded out of mine on occassion in Shamu even with 320 wear tires.
