Tampa Rally and Performance with our friends at east bay speedway have acquired the ENTIRE FACILITY for this event... We will have our Rally cross which will be longer and faster then prior events. depending on turnout someone coming out can expect 8 Full runs on a minimum of .8 mile course with 2 laps per run we can expect 1.6 miles per run..
in addition with schedule permitting we will be offering fun runs and open track laps after the event. open track laps will be run in TIME ATTACK fashion.
East bay will be holding Flat track motorcycles the week prior so the track is being re-graded to a glass like smoothness. this is a once a year opportunity. normally to have them grade the track like this costs us another $1000

if the interior was removed to install a cage, basically it's up to my disgression. if the car is a stock class car, run in stock. or run in prepared once you get to prepared the rally tires really help.. I would not worry about it the competition is no-where to that close yet since the program is only a couple events old.
your classing is up to you. If I feel the car is unfair I'll bump it to prep or mod. just be fair and no-one will worry. we have a NO-protest policy. if someone feels there was a problem and I find it justified then I will bump a class. otherwise we are out there to have fun, and I know we are all racers and if your not cheating your not trying.
one thing about Tampa rally events we are NOT the SCCA if anyone whines about the rules they are taken out behind the timing tower and berated verbally. I "grew up" in SCCA autocross and there is not a nationally competitive car that is not bending the rules so I feel why risk it. if someone wants to run stock in a rally prepped monster they will receive a hollow victory. there is no money or fame at stake. yes Grassroots Motorsports and Ridin clean DVD will be there but once again. why bother, just have fun.

Jeff: No Problem, Nate and I were just thinking about bringing his 83 RX7 which is stock minus struts, springs, exhaust and gutted interior, so I just didn't want to put it in Prep (I think the suspension puts it there) and then get someone pissed off because of the lack of interior. The car is so slow it could probably run stock and not win

Any benefit of R comps here (RA1s) versas some street tires?

There has been some serious discussion about this (usually after a couple beers) In my opinion the R-comps would help on the Clay part of the track because the clay is a lot like pavement when it is dry and hard, but the kart track and infield tend to build up a powdery silt on top of the clay which some tread will help with. if you do get the tread hot and sticky and then drive over the silt I would imagine the dust coating would interfere with your grip.
Like I said it's debatable, until someone does back to back testing no one knows if there is a secret cheater rallycross tire. however I can say without a doubt The 2 rally tired Subaru's were considerabally faster then anything else out there last event. that is why the rally tires bump you up a class.
as for compound. Kumho uses the same rubber compound on their Victoracers and on their R-700 rally tires just rally tires have tougher carcass' to survive the occasional ditch hook. Now the dirt racers use even a softer compound then roadracers. I think an RA-1 would be fine. (matter of fact I know they will be fine I used RA-1's once at rallypark Northeast) some of the more exotic R-compounds that do not have steel belts I would shy away from., just because it's expensive to replace one over a puncture.
we use SCCA classing just to keep it easy for people that come from out of town to know where they land since they can run the same class anywhere in the country. now they specifically state any tire marked "for competition use" must be at least prepared. so run the R-comps in prepared if you want. I just doubt there is that big of an advantage.
I would keep in mind that Rallycross is scored diffrent then autocross since every second counts spin off course etc I would want a tire with the most forgiving breakaway in leu of ultimate lap times.

so we got the date Firmed up, Kenny can make it, (yea no stopwatches) can someone grab some cones? East bay has some, which is not enough for a really complicated course as for the outer boundaries (distance from hard objects) they have provided me with a boatload of old kart and small sprint tires we can use. however I'd like to have the smaller cones for the slaloms and chicanes.
Now in the old Rallypark Northeast days all we had was tires (needed to the c ourses were too long to have workers everywhere) so they work, I just figure if someone brings a couple stacks of small cones it'll be less intimidating for the tighter stuffs. of course that was the days when we were waiting for the "new" wrx to come out.
Nice thing about this date is it's the last time to practice rallycross before the National Tour date in Feb down at homestead.

Jeff, is K&K cool with a Miata for this? Are they covering it as an "autocross"?

The "Push Harder, Suck Less" philosophy explained:
Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

K+K was always okay with 'verts, it was SCCA that did not like them, for this event we are using the topix policy it allows more flexibility, time trial, spectator fees, lapping etc. I'm fine with the miata on the rallycross course unless we run where it gets soft. (soft sand is the only danger to a 'vert) If we have time to do the time trial I'd prefer you use my car, not that I feel the miata is dangerous just on the open track there is a higher speed. so I'd want a hardtop. but foer the rallycross the miatie' are fine.
