Re: May 3 - FAST Classic at SPC
I'd just put this one down to a packed weekend. SCCA is running at Daytona all weekend...that's pulled off a couple (would have me, if I had the whole weekend to spare). BMWCCA is running the next day at Brooksville...that's pulled off about a half-dozen I'd have expected to see in this one...some are running for BMW points, some, I guess, just prefer the runway.

I prefer the runway, but....Jamie wrote: some, I guess, just prefer the runway.
I've been thinking between the two events, do I, "fish or cut bait ?"
One has concrete and a chance to hit the rev limiter ! The other has a bunch of people I like, has a fun course; from what I hear has a good lunch, and is only a 15 minute drive from the house.
I will be at SPC.

Re: May 3 - FAST Classic at SPC
Wish I could make it, but I'll be prepping to head out of town with the family....and I get back the day of the Brooksville event! Damn it. Trying to take it easy on these tires also until I can finally order up what I really want to run on.

Hey all youse guys and gals who might be on the fence on this event - there's plenty of space, but not too much time left. Registration closes soon! And space or not, we don't do walkups - you gotta pre-reg!
SPC forms have been requested. I'll post 'em when I get 'em!

Re: May 3 - FAST Classic at SPC
I'm going to be missing this one. Both cars are apart. The 2011 is in the shop (For a while now) with the transmission dropped getting bench work. Still waiting to here back on what's wrong. The 89 is not even close to ready. Needs to wheels/tires, steering ragjoint, suspension pieces and a rebuilt trans. Hoping to have one of them ready for the Championship event.

Re: May 3 - FAST Classic at SPC
Okay, Registration is closed. We wrapped up with a tidy 24 drivers.
We could split into two groups and do the event that way, but that's not the nature of the "Classic" format in my mind. We like to "mingle" more than that. So, we're doing three groups of 8 workers (barely enough, but it'll work), and like we've done with most of the Classics, when you're not working, you are free to drive. Will try to do 45 minute work groups, which will give each driver 90 minutes to take runs on a grid of no more than 16 cars. Should make for plenty of runs.
We won't have dedicated setup or teardown workers, so if anyone can show up slightly early and/or stick around a little late, it would be much appreciated.
Forecast is calling for rain Saturday, but not enough detail on exactly when yet. If it's the typical afternoon thunderstorms, we'll be golden. We should be wrapped up pretty early. And, of course, it's SPC... so if we need to camp out under the picnic shelter and wait out some rain, we can.
Drew is handling lunch. Steve is towing in the morning, I'm towing in the afternoon. Everything else is ready. See y'all Saturday!

From the Florida forecast I've seen, we should be okay, looks like the heavy rain front moves through early Saturday morning around 3am and brings cooler weather with it. If the forecast holds up, it should make for a nice day.

Re: May 3 - FAST Classic at SPC
As I learned, The Jag is not up to handling the stresses of an autoX; it threw a Gearbox Fault and went into limp mode on my second-to-last run. I'll be back, someday.
The Jag complains about autoX by throwing Gearbox Faults.
I think it is just lazy.

Re: May 3 - FAST Classic at SPC
Please put Doug and me in separate run groups. Of course with the "work group" setup, I don't know if that will help or not. We will still have to share the car sometime during the 2 sessions we are off to get our runs in. Hope it goes smoothly.

Re: May 3 - FAST Classic at SPC
I can swap Doug with somebody in another group if you want, no biggie.
Not sure how this differs from how you guys normally run. If we ran a "formal" three run groups, you guys tend to always run in the same group. So, say we did 6 runs in an hour. You guys would have to double that and get in 12 runs in that hour. Pretty much what you do at every event.
Doing it this way, if you work the same work group, you've got 90 minutes to play, and if you run at the same pace (2 runs of your car for every single-car driver's 1 run), you'll get as many runs as anyone else.
If you guys split up, it could ease your pace a little bit. You'd have one 45-minute session where you'd be sharing the car. And then one solo 45-minute session for each of you.
But, yes, it will go smoothly. Each work group has workers assigned to grid, start and timing plus some course workers. Just be sure your grid worker knows that you're a 2-driver car and work out a system to cycle your car through as often as you need/want to.

Re: May 3 - FAST Classic at SPC
And here's the SPC forms.
As per usual, print 'em back to back, please, so there's only one page of paper.
Be sure to complete both forms - name, addy, etc, with signature on both sides.
Much obliged...

Re: May 3 - FAST Classic at SPC
I just saw the local forecast on Baynews 9 and basically some light showers on and off in the morning, but should be cleared up by noon. I'm willing to vote for a delayed start time tomorrow if that means for dryer runs, and will stay to help pack up the trailer.

Re: May 3 - FAST Classic at SPC
It's looking like rain off and on all day. We'll have to play it by ear. I don't want to start late under the assumption that it's going to be dry later... this is Florida, I don't trust the weather man that much. But, if it's really raining when we get there, we can choose to delay setting up for a bit. We can watch the radar tomorrow and decide how to proceed, we have the technology.

Trailer is in place.
Insurance docs, a few SPC forms, and coursemaps are in an envelope inside.
Enjoy!

Flooding in Tampa. Rain over night and in the morning .. Any thoughts on pulling the plug on this. Only 24 people. Might be the safe thing to do.

No way Jose...uh, David.
Rain is no reason to call off an event. Unless it's a hurricane or spectacular lightning or some such.
