Hey, how'd I get bested by a Miata? He must have had a V-8 swap.

It's a great summer day when you have a fun course, and you don't get rained out.
True we could have gotten in 6 runs with the first two groups being done so early (11:20?), but it's so hard to balance the number of runs with the amount of time workers have to stand out in the heat. The last couple of runs where people were going one at a time felt like an eternity.

I understand the reason for that super long slalom. It's purpose is to hammer it into my head to never do that on PCA course. On a semi related note, I thought the original map had the second part of the slalom jump to the left about 5-7 feet. That would have changed things up.

The slalom ended up being 2 cones longer than planned because Loren wanted to use all the space we could, and there was an offset to the left where the distance between cones dropped from 75' to 65'. I loved it.

Believe it or not, I got more compliments than complaints on that slalom (the whole course, really). It was technically challenging without being slow. People like a challenge.

The slalom was intended to be a progressive slow-down element. You came in hot into a 75' slalom. It was a straight, evenly spaced slalom for the first 3 cones, then it was 75' with a couple feet of "hard offset", then it went down to 65, and then close to 50. When I first walked it, the "tight end" seemed too tight, so I loosened it up a little... and it ended up being pretty easy to get through if you stayed ahead of it. Being "fast" through it was another matter.

Do remember that the cones on our map are not to scale. They'd be about 4' wide! You can get a general idea of cone placement, spacing and offset from the map, but the subtle nuances will be tweaked at setup.

Personally, I hated the turn-around. I kept forgetting that the entry apex was a "sucker apex"... and let it sucker me into turning in too early and pinching the exit. Got it close to right on my 4th run, which netted the 61.2.
