2008 Number Reservations
Need one volunteer to coordinate the reservation of and payment for reserved car numbers for next year.
Please do not post your reservation (yet). I'd like to have whoever coordinates it all decide how it's done.
Please, and thank you.

Have Jamie set it up on MAE, then people register like it's a "normal" event and it keeps track of the numbers and such there. We wouldn't be the only club doing it that way either since I saw one this morning.deadmeat wrote:I think I can do this.
I'd volunteer, but if you need someone more "experienced" that would be understandable

I think the object is less to make money and more to give perm numbers to people who are actually going to make use of them. If you're not competing in half the events in a season, you don't need a permanent number. If you are... then split the cost of that number over 10 events in a year, and it's negligible.
It's sort of like paid pre-reg. It shows that a person is committed to showing up most of the time and we're not wasting our time (or a convenient number that someone else could use) locking in a number for them.
If we wanted to make more money, we'd just raise the entry fees by $5... or cut out lunch (no other club provides lunch)... or quit buying water (not too many clubs provide free bottled water). If 50 people ponied up $10 for a perm number, that's only $500 for the season. Add $5 to entry fees, and you're talking $250 per event. Drop lunch and water and you're talking $300-400 per event!

I'm not sure he was saying we do it to make money, but that by lowering the price, you may "make" more which could in turn be used for club equipment.
I guess it's just what you read into it.
Either way, I still suggest using MAE to do this, that way there is no tracking down people or anything else, just register there and pay and be done with it.

I'm just saying that the total difference in money is going to be negligible (less than the total amount we get from perm numbers, which isn't "a lot") to the budget overall. The club is healthy financially, we can afford to buy the equipment that we need.
I definitely agree that setting perm numbers up in MAE is the way to go. I'm sure Dan (who had to chase people down and keep track of the list manually last year) would agree.

Dave was right, all I was trying to get across is that you might have more people reserve numbers at a lower price, which might make more money. I've attended all but 2 events this year and all but once did someone have my number. I will do whatever it takes to pitch in and help FAST stay sucessful, but I won't pay $20 for a number that most likely will be avaliable most of the year, I will pay $10 though.

Ironically, I paid my $20 for a perm number, and when registering for at least 3 of however many events I attended, my number was already taken. Obviously, there's room for improvement in the process.
Don't know what to say about your aversion to spending $20 on a perm number. If it's not important to you, it's not important to you.

We kept the list on MAE for most of this year -- the difficulties came when people switched e-mail addresses (which is how the software checks against the number list) and we didn't catch it, or when they switched their registration scheme a couple months ago, which did something I haven't figured out.
We can use MAE again, but the new registration system mean it'll cost us -- while listing the event is free, using MAE to register hasn't been for several months. Because we were using them for pre-payment (which wasn't ever free), it hasn't cost us extra money for regular events -- it didn't for the number list because we collected the money at events. No big deal if we choose to do it this way -- I expect we'd make the fee back -- but the club has to decide to authorize it. And yes, I just sent Fearless Leader Steve a note....

Meaty, looks like it's gonna be thanks, but no thanks.
We're gonna do this whole thing through MAE, no need for assistance.
Everyone else: we'll post when the page on MAE is ready.

Since we're setting it up as a mock event on MAE, you'll be able to update your e-mail address, and it'll collect your money. I'll probably set it up in another week.blacksheep-1 wrote:changed adresses, I need to do that, My e-mail and actual are both different now.
