Anyone tried Toyo Proxie T1's lately?

Postby twistedwankel » Mon Nov 10, 2014 2:07 pm

These tires are 240 wear rated quality summer performance Toyo tires.

They are extremely well priced from Tread Depot online. I can get a factory sized staggered 17/18" set delivered to my installer for $670 including FL sales tax in two days.

Very tempting to save $260 on the set and keep the same ride height. NOT a good savings if they suck. Only drawback I see is a 10/32" tread depth might cause issues and they don't shave tires there like Tirerack does.

**Also available at Kauffman Tire in FL various places maybe cheaper?

I didn't say it, but believe in it...tires are the single best improvement for autocross-why not go for the proven/best-what is couple of benjamins when you are part of the gold chain, hairy chest crowd now (Corvette-owner...)

The only Toyo you'd reasonably want to autocross on is the R1R. Or, the R888 if you want to run in a race tire class.

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

I tried the cheap route, and while they weren't God awful, they were okay. No doubt I'll go cheap again.

These guys have them in stock in a lot of sizes, they're 240 wear, Z rated for speed and 20,000 miles so for a lot of FAST members the Toyo Proxie T1 from Kauffmans all around tampa installed for just over $700 in big sizes might help? Don't know how long they will discount -$160 but it's tempting for FUN racing and still drive to work? Mind you that price is for a Vette!!! Toyo is a name brand.

I was tempted by brand name, driver reviews, price, immediate availability, local installation and they have to be 10x better than the discontinued Firestone RunFlats now on the car. Guess I'll wait until December when the new 200 wear race tires come out. I've got another car with new Hankooks on it all ready so no biggie for me.

Addition: For the heck of it and a nice vert top down day I drove down to local Kauffman's and they had NO T1's in stock contrary to computer info. Interesting conversation with managers. If you want the "deal" then deal with the Tiretread.com (like tirerack) to get the best price. They screw their franchises to make a point? McTires I guess. Nice managers. I'll deal with them again for sure. Will show up on Stones at next event and then you all will have to deal with Grey8 on race tires until I find some decent race tires for the Vette.

So far NO BODY anywhere near me shaves tires anymore. Tirerack is the only game in town I guess?

My single dealing with Kauffman's convinced me they don't know where or what their inventory is at any particular store. And when I was looking for Miata tires recently, I checked their website in a moment of weakness, only to find that they don't recognize any size large than a 195/60-15 as stock on a Miata...clowns.
