No More Hankook RS3 225/45/17 ?
I've been shopping through Tire Rack and Discount Tire, and it seems they don't carry RS3's in 225/45/17's anymore. I'm wondering if Hankook stopped making that size ? I've found other online tire dealers that carry them, but they're expensive and Ive never dealt with them before.

They are telling you that 225s are too small, level up!

Lol. 235-40 ftw!
Really, that size is widely used on a lot of different cars. I bet they are just sold out.

They normally will state that they're sold out, but on both sites, they don't show up at all, even when using the size filter.Native wrote: I bet they are just sold out.
Maybe a new series is coming out, just thought someone here might know.

Brian,
Since the tires are no longer available in the size you want...I think you should update the entire car to something like this...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL4kIk8mXSk
Quite impressive...matter of fact, I just talked to a fellow that imported a right hand drive Silvia (similar year) from Japan...that looked very inviting...with a V-8!
Bummer on the tires though...

Re: No More Hankook RS3 225/45/17 ?
Wow, that was a great video, even if you aren't into 240's it is really worth watching !
I was loving the first road test, seemed like they really had the car set up for daily driving. The way the car looked from the inside and outside shots, it looked like a really smooth driving car.
The drag times really amazed me, 0-60 in the low 4 seconds ? Wow!
They didn't really go into the type of suspension they were running on the road course. Still looked like a ton of fun though. I have the steering wheel so that's a start.
That's a ton of power for a subframe car, I just have to think they beefed up the body/frame. They replaced the motor and trans but said nothing about the rear end; I've been told the stock rear-ends on the 240's are pretty stout. Lots of money in that conversion, and they mentioned the exhaust wasn't right.
If I had the money, I'd do it ! I hope this catches on, the value of my car may go up !

Re: No More Hankook RS3 225/45/17 ?
The size options have always held me back on getting RS3s. Can't use a 195/50/15 on my Integra since its too heavy, if I was an EG or EF civic then it would work and no 205/50 option. Looks like the 225/45/15 option is gone now too, bummer.
Sucks about the 225/45/17 option too, since I would have used that on my GTI if I ever decided to use my second set of wheels.
Guess there is always a 245/40/17 to use?

That size really doesn't work for me either because it would bump me out of M3 and I doubt they would fit.aw614 wrote:

oops forgot all about that.
are you running a 17x7? Maybe the 215/45ZR17 would work ok?

How does that bump you from M3? You can run whatever tires size you want in FAST "M" classes. Only power-adders and serious chassis mod's will bump you, AFAIK.Solar wrote:That size really doesn't work for me either because it would bump me out of M3 and I doubt they would fit.aw614 wrote:

245's will fit. I've seen it done. I'm sure they would help too. You'd likely need to acquire some wider wheels...

Cars in M3 must use a tire size no wider than 225, and are prohibited from having any limited slip differential other than a factory Viscous type. M3-classed cars that exceed this standard must bump up to M2. (new for 2014-15 season)
245's won't fit on my car, and buying new wheels isn't really a option for me right now, I can barely afford tires that I can't even find now.jesup16 wrote: 245's will fit. I've seen it done. I'm sure they would help too. You'd likely need to acquire some wider wheels...

That's true... if you didn't pay any attention to the changes that we made for the 2014-15 season.jesup16 wrote:How does that bump you from M3? You can run whatever tires size you want in FAST "M" classes. Only power-adders and serious chassis mod's will bump you, AFAIK.

For what it's worth. I'm not overly thrilled with the ver2 RS-3's I put on Grey8 1 so far. They don't like the cold any better than the ver1 (which was their goal) and the different tread compound doesn't seem to grip as well when warm either. Maybe next summer? Maybe when they get 1/2 worn down? The well used old (used when I got them) Star Specs were better on concrete. As are the BFG's.Solar wrote:Not at $165 per tire.jesup16 wrote:

Will report back soon on a totally different approach to autocross tires. BTW I had a discussion with Tire Rack about the current advantage of shaving tires for autocross and the quick answer was there is no significant reason to shave other than road race tires. Also no reason to believe there will be any chunking issues with modern Max summer treads.

Right now tire rack has rivals for 132.00 each. I don't know if that's still more than you were willing to pay, but that's the lowest I've seen.
