Car Was Running Hot On The Highway, look at this pic

Postby Solar » Sat Jan 10, 2015 6:59 pm

My 240 has been running hot on the freeway, but around town it's been fine even with the A/C on. Last week I noticed the lower rad tank was seeping just a touch of coolant, I knew that wasn't the problem but I ordered a new rad anyhow.

I pulled the old rad out, and I couldn't believe what I saw, about 60% of the old rad was plugged up with a ton of crud.

How my car hasn't overheated in the passed just blows my mind. What's really weird is the A/C condenser was clean, the air passes through it first, so I guess the condenser has been replaced ?

Car runs much cooler now. :)

Ack...Corvette C4's would pack the area between the condenser and radiator...couldn't see it so no one ever thought it to be the problem. Not sure why...maybe the fin count is higher on the radiator.

Your fix can only help the HP production!

Off topic...I came across this, but now realize it is dated project car.

The moral of the story is: Take your radiator out and clean it at least once every 20 years, whether it needs it or not.

The "Push Harder, Suck Less" philosophy explained:
Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

Yeah, a un-molested 240sx is hard to find, the ones I've seen lately are either automatics or convertibles. When I bought mine a few years ago, most people said it was the "last" stock 240sx out there. You know when you see a true stock 240sx because they sit pretty high with the stock wheels.

Had you installed a new aluminum 3 row with a new intercooler and turbo you'd have noticed it years ago...get the Drift? :-D

Do they sit high? Or do they just have small 15" wheels with short tires? When I ran 225/45/15's on my stock 15x7" stang the wheel wells looked massive but the car was 1" lower to the ground in reality.

They sit pretty high, even with my 17 inch wheel on my car everyone was asking if I took my car off roading. :)
