Can I play too

Postby MotoFiveO » Sat Jan 24, 2015 5:47 pm

Hey All,

I used to come to many Fast Events about 8 years ago and over a couple of years I ran several vehicles to include a Miata a Mustang and an AUDI TT, even ran the wife's Chevy Aveo one time in Brooksville. Time and Family drew me away from FAST but still have a love of cars and other vehicles. SO my question is can I run my new Vehicle at your event?

POLARIS SLINGSHOT

Image

Essentially it has a car motor GM EcoTech 2.4 liter, 5 speed manual Transmission, ABS, Power assist steering, uses car tires, has factory Seat belts and roll bar that supports 5x the vehicle weight.

The vehicle is street legal but is licensed and insured as a motorcycle. That is the part I am not certain will fly by fast rules? This is a new vehicle to the market and there are quite a few people on the waiting list to even get theirs delivered. I am sure there will be many SLINGSHOT owners that would be interested in attending your events. The type of people that Purchase this vehicle are enthusiast and drawn to this type of event naturally and will be looking for a fun outlet to explore the potential of both themselves and their new Polaris.

I am familiar with the safety requirements and the inspection process of FAST and certain the SLINGSHOT would pass inspection. I don't really care what class it was in just want to autocross again. In time if there were enough participants might even be considered it's own class.

*EDIT* I would be willing to come out to an upcoming event and let you guys take a look at it in person before you decide

There is/was a Morgan 3 wheel 2 seater but as you mentioned I think it too was licensed as a motorcycle in UK for cheap insurance.

Those things need a rear "dually" wheel or something x4 option? Looks like a lot of fun and much safer than a bike too I imagine. Not a lot different than the Arial Atom except for the one rear tire.

Good luck.

As much fun as it might be to watch, we can't allow it to compete in our events.

You've got two things going against you:
1. It's licensed as a motorcycle, and we don't allow motorcycles.
2. Our insurance clearly defines an "automobile" as having four wheels.

Sorry, dude.

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

Looks like Loren already shot this down, but its worth mentioning that I believe this vehicle does have an active suspension that is designed to keep the shiny side up, better than a Fiat 500 in that regard. :D

Did you have this Slingshot out on I4 yesterday? I saw one coming the other direction.

I have a close friend that is a dealer, I've bee all over these things and I have quite a few safety concerns with them. Andy assures me I'm just over thinking them, but I'm not convinced. my hands on with them and my experience with cars tells me this is little more than a toy for weekend warriors and not something you would take to a track like an Atom or an Xbow.

have fun with it. the drive train is out of a Pontiac Solstice if you want parts or forced induction for it. just FYI
