Brake issues

Postby aparke » Fri Dec 28, 2007 11:55 am

So, I have question regarding brakes (probably an easy one for those more machanically inclined than myself)...

I am experiencing some major brake fade in my '96 Integra - and by fade, I don't mean after heating up, but rather the brake system seems to lose pressure when applied (doesn't matter if warm or cold). With the brake pedal applied, the presssure will eventually give way and the pedal begins to approach the floor. I either need to apply more brake to keep the same pressure or reapply the brakes completely to gain pressure again.

There are no leaks and the fluid is at normal level. I assume that the master cylinder needs replacing. Any thoughts?

+2. If it's weeping, you won't see an appreciable change in the fluid level for some time. And if it hasn't happened to you clutch master and slave cylinders yet, it will.

Huh? Weeping?... well, she likes to whine a bit when I push her too hard. She's old and worn out!

Actually, I did have the master and slave clutch cylinders replaced about a year and a half ago.

Sounds like you got a defective master cylinder. Check all four wheels for brake fluid leaks, if it's dry all around, then it's time for a new master cylinder.
