POST April 12th Event
Great work everyone, we beat the the rain!!!
I had a great time as always ( saw a few people I haven't seen in a while ). I just didn't have the will to push the car today so my times left something to be desired.
Pictures: As with all the pictures I post here, feel free to use them if you like them. I was trying a few "experimental" angles and compositions this time and some turned out nicely I think. Others not so much but what can you do. I'm going to start uploading to flickr soon so my photo links may change.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/pl2otkjknu3u ... t6q-a?dl=0
The course was fun and much faster than it looked on the map.
Thanks for another great day guys.

Great pics Phil! This one pretty much sums how I did today
Really should run with some gas in the car...couldn't get it to hook at all! Great job Brian M! Time for me to start making some changes to the stock setup!

Brian's car is totally stock legal for SCCA F Street so if you are going to be concerned with your "obvious" advantages just buy some more gas and practice alotShifterracer wrote:Great pics Phil! Re: POST April 12th Event
So, we had a lightly attended event today, which required a lot of people to put in a little more effort than usual... and more than a few to put in a LOT more effort. We really appreciate it! Hopefully, we'll get back to better attendance soon, so that we'll have enough folks to easily fill all of the worker positions.
Glad everyone enjoyed the course. Clearly, it must have been a "Miata course", as I had the second fastest stock time in a Miata.
We'll just ignore the fact that the outgoing side consisted of a 20-60 mph straight sprint, a 30-60 mph accelerable slalom, and most of the return side consisted of a 400' straight, and the course finished with another 30-60 sprint, okay?
Anyway, the Results are posted. Looking forward to seeing more photos and videos... and hearing the excuses. (I have a pile of excuses for why I didn't get into the 44's with Doug's Corvette, excuses are important)

Doug's car needs moar tire. They can't handle the Drew.
I guess I at least owe the mayor a car wash for poking the dirt.

I felt it could have used more tire, as well. Or less torque. Or, maybe I could use less Miata-like throttle-control?AScoda wrote:Doug's car needs moar tire. They can't handle the Drew.

Re: POST April 12th Event
Yall know that the results have been posted for like hours....right? http://drivefast.org/results/results-archive/
Tim is like some motivated off roader now!! Holy crap. Let's all motivate Tim to put on a bigger turbo and new motor soon so we can have him get ST FTD every event from here on. Must have been the poem?
Oh, Tim's in Morning now. Because we in the Afternoon got heat strokes and died?
THIS was an awesome event today. We went to the sucky BBerry festival that cost me $21 to park, walk 10 blocks uphill and get in the gate in downtown Brooksville. My wife was pissed and wouldn't even sit on the steps of the Funeral Home while I went and got the car:) Hey, don't tell me you're gonna die unless you really mean it
What a crazy day for me. I ended up in 2nd by only .1 seconds behind Tony both running the same 300wear Michelin PSS tires:) 140 tires ended up 3rd. Why bother getting soft tires that don't last?
I learned just how fast my car is supposed to be with Loren and Drew's help. Can I call a duel or what? Drew and Loren on first runs were within .2 seconds (but Drew touched the final apex cone...ouch killing his mini lead). There is blood in the water now for Drew. Loren is the King of Brooksville beating me by 2.1 seconds in a car I've driven for 6 months now. Drew was determined to see a 44 on his second run and if I'd have brought my civil war pistol he would have since he actually touched the grass....argg. I think the Vette smelled Ford on his ass and bit him. Didn't see that coming. Drew NEVER does that. See Nathan no biggie!! Shit happens.
So Loren was neat and tidy and if I can actually get the video to behave I'll share his tidy whity run of 45.157 which was faster than his S2 win and would have placed him 5th. DOH Drew would have been 6th (which is funny as he was 5th with his car) as he also was faster in the Vette than his Ford by .2 on his first run.
It took me until my 3rd run to actually appreciate the fine points of this course and go smoothly quickly improving every one of my runs for a lowly 47.223 = 2.1 seconds behind Loren "The King of Brooksville".
We'll do this again one day once I get "better" as Drew needs second shot in this Duel. BOTH of them beat me by about 2 seconds on their first of two runs....crap. I had 5.
See you all in June. The sea calleth.

Bah. Car was better but I was worse. Oh well. Still managed to squeak into 2nd in M2.

Re: POST April 12th Event
I'd have loved to have seen this course run as-designed, but it was just too risky on the return side, so we had to "ease" it a lot. It was still fun, though.

Re: POST April 12th Event
We sure did beat that rain today, and the bit we got during the awards ceremony was probably more relieving than anything else - it got a little hot today. Can't wait until summer.
I'll repeat Loren's thank yous - we beat the rain because of some fantastic teamwork. We ran ahead of schedule almost all day, thanks to everybody's cooperation, helpfulness, and hustle. Very cool!
I had my "usual" day - top 15ish overall and mid-pack in class. You've heard the definition of insane is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result - that seems to be how I drive. Gotta get better at fixing my mistakes.
Met a few new folks today, and enjoyed the ride- and drive-alongs! Hope to see you all again.
Phillip - nice shots. Thanks again!

Re: POST April 12th Event
I'll add that is was pleasantly cool in the morning, and pretty hot in the afternoon. But, not a drop of rain fell until we were nearly done packing the trailer and handing out awards.Native wrote: - it got a little hot today.
And... To all who insist that the afternoon session is inherently "faster" than the morning, I present the following:
Overall FTD was set in the morning. (0.4 second margin over best afternoon time)
Street Tire FTD was set in the morning. (0.2 second margin over best afternoon time)
Two fastest stock times were set in the morning. (0.3 second margin over best afternoon time)
So, if you're thinking there's an advantage to running in the afternoon... it ain't necessarily so.

Absolutely there's an advantage: I didn't get up until 8, had a leisurely breakfast, played with the dogs, and then came out to drive.Loren wrote:So, if you're thinking there's an advantage to running in the afternoon... it ain't necessarily so.

Season Points are updated.
If my math is right, if I take first at all remaining points events, I can win S2 by one point. No pressure or anything.

Re: POST April 12th Event
I can only describe the course as *tingly* --remembering I know very little about cars and much less about racing them well-- I can only comment on the rush it provided. I didn't at this AX, as running on time was essential and there was little time to be fiddling with electronics, but I have an app that measures HR, and at another event it clocked at 108 BPM while sitting in the grid before a run; my usual resting rate is in the low 60s. I am positive right after my second run it would have been in the 120s and in the the 130s thereon... That counts for a cardio workout, doesn't it?
Thanks for the pix Philip!

Re: POST April 12th Event
Felt great to be back out there. The pace was a bit quick, but I'm not complaining. The car feels so much better on the Falken tires, looking forward to hopefully getting more seat time to start challenging in M1 again. Only one clean run of the day, that's different for me. More seat time, more seat time, need more seat time. LOL

Fun run, but watching me death grip the steering wheel (and where did that water bottle come from?).
