May 23rd Memorial Day Weekend Classic

Postby Solar » Sat May 23, 2015 5:15 pm

Another great FAST Classic was had today, 8 runs on a very fun, fast and long course. Thanks to everyone that had to pick up my cones, and a big thanks to Jamie who had to pick up the same cone 4 or 5 times in a row 8-) .

Only 30 drivers made for a quick day so there was never a chance for rain, I believe we were done and packed up by 2. It's nice once in a while to have a small amount of drivers with 3 run groups, it makes for a more laid back day to chat and screw around when you don't have to work or drive.

Here's to all that have served or are serving our country. :thumbwink:

Hope everyone enjoys and has a safe holiday weekend. :)

Results are up.

What Brian said. Plus, some extra thanks for the people who did more than their share today, like Evan. I know there were others, but Evan was over-the-top helpful today and wrapped up by loading almost every cone on the course into the back of my truck by himself! (thankfully, folks who were stacking cones did a better job than usual... often we go out to find 40 stacks of 6 cones... today there were more like 15 stacks of 20, which is much easier to deal with)

Classic events are where it's at! I'm glad we have (barely) enough people interested in them to keep doing them. I think think they're a lot of fun. Tell all your friends! I don't care if we sell out, but this format works a lot better with around 40 entries than it does with 30. A few extra people makes all the difference.

Thanks to Scott for letting me flog his MR-S!

Here is my best run; the video is from my 2007 Canon Power Shot SD 750 so don't expect any fancy Go Pro type video. ;)

I'm waiting to see how the camera that Ron bought works before I drink the kool-aid and buy a Go Pro.

EDIT: Wrong video posted earlier, this is my fastest run.

Oh and I swear at the end, you've been warned.

Please tell me there are no pictures of me plowing through that cone wall (same place as the photo above) doing an instructor run in the red Miata! After 9 runs in the MR-S on grippy RS3's, I hopped into a 1.6 Miata on Primewell tires. There was NO grip!!! I did better on my second attempt, but ended up with so much speed at the turn-around that I almost couldn't brake enough to get turned around, it was nuts.

 you are safe. Angel doesn't take photos like Phillip does, she was only looking for my car yesterday.

As I told many of you, my suspension money went into the new tire and child hauler, so I allowed Drew and John in the GTR to beat me this time around. ;-) The new set up should be in before the start of next season. Michelle keeps telling me we can find room for coilovers in the budget, one of the many reasons I love her, but I keep putting it off as I need my excuse. ;-)

Four tires with room for a cooler and still all the seats available to fit seven... We may need to a "Doug challenge" in this beast. :-P
