1/26/2008 - PAVED Road Rally

Postby Loren » Fri Dec 07, 2007 1:53 pm

Mark your calendars and get registered for
the "Tarmac Tease" Rally!
Register Here

Our pal Jeff Lloyd (the Treekiller) has been putting on some awesome off-road rallies lately, now he's trying to get the attention of folks who don't want to take their car's off-roading. That would be YOU!

The rallymaster for this event is yours truly, and I'm planning a tasty route that will take you to parts of north Hillsborough that you never knew existed! This will be a traditional TSD style rally. What's that mean? Time, Speed and Distance... It means that you're given a route to follow and an average speed to maintain, and your goal is to reach each checkpoint at the correct (not the fastest) time. It's not as easy as it sounds! Keeping up with route instructions while trying to keep track of an average speed can be quite challenging, and timing is done to the second.

If you've not done a TSD rally before, fear not, the instructions are very clearly written and we'll answer any questions you might have before you start. This is not your typical club "gimmick" rally that you may have been on before. It requires precision and logical thinking to finish well. Of course, if you just want to go and have fun without regard to how you finish, that's okay, too. Just try not to get lost!

Get yourself a co-pilot and get registered, you'll have fun! Standard registration fee for this event is $35 per car. Discounted registration is available ($30) until December 22.

You can find some really good beginning TSD Rally information at http://www.tsdroadrally.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .

Let me or Jeff know if you have any questions.

AWESOME! :P :P :P

let me just say if you have never done a TSD rally it is very fun and more of a chalenge than most things around.
I did one a couple years back and have wanted to do one again ever since.

and a CO Driver is all but required.

A co-driver IS required. Don't show up without one.

I'll second what Scott said. Running in a TSD rally is very fun, but challenging. If you go out to have a good time, you definitely will, though.

Being all tarmac, its a good way to enjoy some nice roads for those who don't want to have their cars pull double duty, like mine does 8)

is there anyone interested in going to this that can navigate or anyone want an unexperienced navigator willing to learn....

I would like to go but need someone to go with? or need someone to copilot for me that has some exp. I have done a road rally only once years ago and had a blast I would very much like to learn more and do more in the future.

I even have a Terratrip 303+ out of a LandRover from England... don't ask it was free and it's not hooked up right now but I do have a new wire harness for it I think all I need to make it work is a magnetic pick up? and if that dosnt work I have a etrex legend garmin GPS and a computer based one that can be used for nav.

so let me get this straight, its not a race, but more like a poker run - in the sence that everyone just kind of gets together and drives to different points on a map? obviously no one is condoning speeding on public roads...

Well, you're driving to different points, but nobody is giving you a map or explicitly telling you where the points are.

Imagine your best friend giving you directions to his house for a party.

Now, imagine that your best friend is an evil bastard and wants you to get lost on the way to the party. :)

I have never Seen the route, and if I let Loren measure it without me, now that being said, I NEVER navigate, and when I do it's with enough hardware to make a Cray Supercomputer go, DAMN!! well correction I HAVE entered rallies by myself. but I think I'm going to be needed as a worker..

HAH!

I haven't even THOUGHT about workers yet.

First, let me say that I think it would be cool if we could let Jeff enter this rally as either a driver or a navigator if someone is willing to team with him. He doesn't often get the chance, since he's usually the rallymaster.

But, yeah... I'm going to need a couple workers. Anybody have an interest in supporting the sport, but don't want to enter the rally for any reason? Two vehicles with at least one worker per vehicle would be great. Could find uses for more folks, but I'm not going to get greedy.

Anybody?

Speak up quick, BTW... Jeff and I are scheduled to do the official mileage run of the route Sunday afternoon. Will need someone to sub for him if he's going to enter the rally.

That's half the battle. Need someone who can ride with me Sunday to finalize the route. We're planning on leaving the autocross a bit early (2-3pm probably) to get it done before dark.

Understood, Mike. I'll get with you if nobody "more qualified" pops up.

I've been pretty overwhelmed with a lot of stuff lately, just trying to make this as quick, easy and painless for ME as possible!

Nice Try Mike, but your registered to drive the event. It would not be fair to anyone if you pre-ran it.

Nah, don't sweat it. We need entrants. Not much point in doing it without entrants!
