July 18th Post Event (Niar, Niar, Niar Tim)

Postby twistedwankel » Sat Jul 18, 2015 6:48 pm

First never question my big toe when it comes to rain.

I got to see people I haven't seen in eon's simply because I went as a guest in the Early Group and hung around for my totally dry, hot runs in the final heat of the Late group. Awesome.

I haven't worked so hard for a 3rd place trophy since the M2 debacle in my RX8:)

It was very hard to stay totally clean on this course so all my best runs were dirty but totally fun even with passengers.

Barely managed a manatory 5th place 2 pts to snatch the never to be seen again 3rd place t shirt out of Carl's grasp. He wasn't there so hopefully he'll appreciate I spent the whole day there to beat him.

Thank you, thank you all for a great season of autocrossing once again.

The finale was toe to toe competition in nearly every group.

Was certainly some epic battling going on in M1 this morning. Thought I had more in the car, but I just could not catch the front four. Did I mention how much I hate having an automatic? Why did I not sell this car for a manual years ago? Doh! Was a fantastic course. Look forward to reviewing videos to see if I was over braking or could have taken a section differently. I certainly had the go pedal to the floor, a lot! This car doesn't lack grip.

Another great event, and the rain stayed at bay too, thought the second group in the afternoon would get some rain but other than a light sprinkle for a couple minutes it stayed dry ! The course was fun and fast, with 6 runs really made for a great time out there. I had some good runs, and some bad, if I would've just put it all together I think I could've been in the very low 42's.

It was hot no doubt, and running back and forth riding with a couple novices really started to make me feel my age. I was getting a little light headed at the end and needed some A/C, I think my blood sugar was getting a little low too. Once I drank a Gatorade and cooled off I was feeling normal again.

We got the rain as everyone was leaving, and driving south on 41 to Hungry Harry's in the pouring rain on not great tires made for some interesting driving. We all made it safely to the restaurant and after a couple cold drinks on some BBQ, the rain had passed and made for a enjoyable dry ride home.

Thanks for everyone that made it another great FAST event ! :)

Whew! It was hot! But, it wasn't wet! (except for my drive on race tires to Hungry Harry's in torrential rain... that was interesting)

As Miata driver, the course was too much of a "power course". It wasn't intentional, but I should have ridden with Drew on his test run and/or taken a run myself. A couple of minor tweaks could have had that course a little less on the 2nd gear rev limiter for a lot of people while slowing down just a tiny bit. I think it would have been MORE fun (more like the original version of this course that we did back in September), and more challenging. But, it certainly WAS a fun course. The decreasing slalom was perfect, and the kink was a blast!

Thanks to all the usual suspects (and some new folks, too!) who went above and beyond today. Not the least of which was the large group of people who stuck around to help pack up the trailer after working (at least) their hour of course work. Much appreciated! It's people like you who make autocross tick.

I'm gonna go take a shower, then I'll try to sort out the season points and get them updated.

I want to thank Steve for co- driving my car today. It's encouraging to know that she's got some more in her. I just need to figure out how to extract it...

Anybody know if Nate made it home? He was having some mechanical issues.

The way you drive is fine Alex, you do not need to extract anything else :)
I made it home without any issues, thanks for asking.

That was a great course- big thanks to Loren and everyone who has welcomed us to the group. Being new to the sport, it's been fun seeing our improvements in the rankings over the past few months. Ive learned a lot and I appreciate the input from all the veterans.

Just like your Burton, I never get tired of watching that thing. 8-) Good to see you back out there !

Scott, you should think about selling annual passes, because ever time I looked over at you, it was like a line for a theme ride; someone else was climbing in your car !

That was fun! I hate to say this but looking at the results it lists my first run, a 43.293, as a clean time. This is incorrect, my first run had an a big off course at the "kink" (slid right past ), my passenger at the time can attest to that :D I can also provide video evidence. My fastest time should be 43.536. It just wasn't my day again - to add insult to my clutch problems my clutch slave died on the way back home :)

Still it was a fun day and getting 6 runs was great. Thanks to everyone that made this event run smoothly. This was my first season of autocrossing and I can't wait do it again!

This should be my best raw time of 41.393 +1 but the sound somehow got turned off?

Silence is golden. Three best runs were all coned by one mostly in the diminishing slalom.

I hate them when they are reversed from "extending" and accelerating. Like loosing a stiffy.

Great season ender course...6 runs too! Tickling the rev limiter in 3rd gear into the slalom is my kind of speed!

It is a wonder what fresh tires can do...I just wish I could drive like that guy in the blue 350Z!

Nonetheless-fun event as usual...

My quickest run...unfortunately, its a 'Cone Cam'...whether one finds that interesting or not. Love the tire distortion and suspension movement though!

May post another of my flailings from inside...

Congrats to both Drew and Mario...great competition in Modified 1!

Can I get a witness? I need to stand up and testify.

I was so grouchy when I got there, but the FAST faithful embraced me and showed me to the light and zip ties. I may have appeared rattled when I was performing triage on all the plastic bits I ripped out of my front right corner, but it was an integral part of the experience, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I decided to entertain myself with flag-drop starts and most of the drivers responded with more aggressive launches, so that was fun.

Thanks everybody for a great event to cap a great season!

Peace and blessings,

Johnnie

Wow. I was really glad I went early as a "guest" just to watch the action in M1 if nothing else!!!

Tim proved he doesn't need any rain advantage. I'm pretty sure that Z was Nismo'd out the wazoo which is totally normal in STU AND he was definitely a good driver too using all that extra power and suspension. Personally I was "chicken" to slop thru the slalom and finish like he was doing most of his runs!!

Here is another.

I admit to a foul with the water bottle...should have been (and always is) in the glove box during a run. Consider it my low buck 'g' meter for this presentation.

Well I'm late to this post-event chat as usual...

Alex - thanks again for sharing your car! I had a ball driving it, and all its addicting torque! I could really get used to that...

And thank you to all of you who helped make another FAST autocross move along like butter! We took a look at that first run group and opted for 6 runs instead of 5. Got a little nervous about that when the second run group ran long, but we were right on schedule in the afternoon, and it just started to rain as I was leaving (last one out). Excellent timing!
Loren wrote:Thanks to all the usual suspects (and some new folks, too!) who went above and beyond today. Yeah, what Loren said! And I'm gonna add that those folks who step up, and volunteer to help when they are just watching, or who take on double-duty, or handle a job for two on their own - you guys really exemplify the type of people that make our sport, and our group, work out so well! :lust: And the thing is, you guys make up for the people, who, for reasons unexplainable, don't feel the need to fulfill their work obligations. The past couple of events, we've had to hunt down drivers to come do their work assignments. Just this event, there were 3 that I knew of - yes, 3! One person signed up for both sessions, left after the morning, didn't tell anyone, and we wasted time looking for him (Late session, work 1) before we realized he was gone. And 2 others, who, when their time to work came around, just felt like doing something else. And that's after the drivers' meeting, when we routinely, politely, and firmly remind folks how much we need them to be reliable and work their jobs. The entire event depends on everyone doing their part, and it's just too bad that some people don't seem to realize that 50 - 100 others are counting on them.
