Sorry I fell asleep and noticed your passenger seat is messed up.

Did u ever shift gears? :o You are on my "short list" of co-drivers.

The Mayor
When I walked the course I really expected to need 3rd gear on the way up but it it wasn't needed and the top of 2nd was only a few MPH short of what I needed. Yet the course was still faster than I expected.
Loren wrote:The more I look at that slalom, the more I think someone moved a cone after Steve and I did the final setup/safety walk of the course.

When we walked it, I believe the 3rd cone was a 2-3 feet further to the left. (or possibly the 4th cone a little to the right) That would have made entering the slalom to the right at least an "interesting decision" instead of it being a no-brainer to take it to the left. It would have given an advantage to taking the right entry that could have potentially balanced immediate entry advantage of going left.
Funny, I figured you changed. When Ben and I set that up something was different from when I walked it. I actually walked it twice just because I couldn't figure out how the left was suddenly so much faster.

Could just be that Steve and I only walked it once and we weren't too worried about it. We never set that slalom up the same way twice, it's part of the charm of the Enduro course. We talked about the fact that it looked like it might be faster to go to the right, but it was still very possible to drive it to the left. As long as it's at least driveable either way, it's good for Enduro.

My slalom setup philosophy was "I'm just gonna put these cones in the general area of where they are on the map and hope for the best", so I have no idea what it looked like. The first time I even considered what it looked like was on my course-walk late in the AM.

That was great fun! The old chevy was spitting a sputtering some on my first run I'm thinking because I was bouncing off the rev limiter in 2nd so much and the optispark didn't like it, that combined with the fact the my valvetrain really doesn't like bouncing off the rev limiter either I decided to just short shift it for my second run and use 3rd most of the course. That might have cost me a small amount of time, but probably not much as I do have plenty of low end torks and the engine was much happier.

My second run, would have been in the 180s but for that stupid cone the jumped out in front of me. :bangwall:

^^ If the awards party has a "best Sound" award that car will be hard to beat.

Watching all the videos from the event should help make the wait for the next enduro a little better for at least the next hour :D

Dan got video ( thanks again! ) of my last run so I did a quick sync up with my video.

You are really getting good, I was working the course on your runs and you wobbled 3 cones in my section without penalty.

Enduros are great, huh?!?! But yeah, I'm in the "once a year is enough" crowd. Leaves time for a novice school, Duel, or other some-such shenanigans.

Thanks to everyone who pitched in, especially with the setup and cleanup, and all the stuffs in between - can't be done as well without you!

I do believe that slalom got accidentally adjusted. When we walked it, there was only one cone way offset, not two. Made the left entry WAY faster.

Thanks for the race-tire codrive there, Loren (and Joe). Good fun. Bummer I hit so many cones. I'd love to know where, as I'm guessing it was in the 50-foot slalom sections that I tried to superman my way through...my reflexes aren't up to the traction/speed that was available. Good times!
twistedwankel wrote: The next FAST event you might enjoy Steve trying to co-drive my 15 year old Vette and hearing him say: "Holy crap....a Miata that never stops accelerating."
If we can make that happen, to heck with "them," I know I'd enjoy it!!

Doug's car will teach you that every slalom has a maximum speed... and you'll usually find that speed in his car.

Thanks. The Enduro format seems to be the type of event that cements a concept for me and lets me make a big leap in my learning curve. After last year's I was able to find courses and not get lost (a big problem I had early on). This year it seems to have been finally translating into actual action what I knew should be the turnaround strategy. Knowingthe theory doesn't mean you can make it happen.

That second run left a nice afterglow :high:

Thanks! I gotta squeeze out every fraction that I can and that sometimes means giving them cones a shave -- not too worried about my slipstream making them wobble :D

I just found this forum. The Endurocross was a blast. Fast really knows how to put on a fun event. Here are my 2 runs. The second one was about 4 seconds faster.

my first enduro autocross and it was awesome, especially driving a new-to-me car. being able to compare different inputs on a circuit is nice. I think being out in the sun from 8-5 pm without coffee took a toll on me but it was worth it.

see you guys in September!
