I would say on same car same driver the PSS is a good 2.5 to 3 seconds slower then a RE71R on a 60 second track. And honesty maybe more depending on layout. It's a solid daily tire, but it's just not in the conversation on autoX tires.

Yea I know they're not up to par with the big names but I'm just trying to focus on getting decent with those tires before I go onto something stickier.

Damn 2.5-3 slower? I thought it would be like 1ish max. Z2, Rivals, Re71R's really that big of a difference on grip?

Thanks for all the comments everyone, some great input here. I'll still use the pss in the rear until they touch the bars, and then get new pss rears(maybe I'll swap to some 200 wear after I wear the whole pss set). For the on, off and on I try to reach tire squeal a little so I know I'm going fast enough. It's probably not the best approach and should probably focus on having a better line. I tell myself before I do my runs to take it easy and focus on the lines but once I'm on the course my right foot says

PSS cost just as much as all the 200wear tires do. AND they don't last as long as most of the top 200 ones. Myself and one other person I saw corded their PSS right down to the cord liked melted it all off the outside tread block before hitting the wearbars. When new they are great rain tires. They last well until hitting about 6/32" then they stick very well but disappear 3x as fast as the first 4/32" did. Look back thru the posts for more details. I have been extremely pleased with the Toyo Proxes Sport T1 on my vette. They are at least as good as the PSS I ran before and are outlasting them now that I've got them worn to 7/32". They only cost $600/set for my C5 from a local Toyo dealer and have a full range of sizes to fit most everything. They are great in the rain too. Bang for the buck and are quiet too. About 3/5 the cost of PSS which I will never buy again on an autocross car. I believe they carry a 15k mile warrantee if not raced same as the PSS. Anyhow when I finally wear these tires out I'll go back to 200 Race tires if I can find the right sizes. Probably next season.

**I was toe to toe with Tony's 911 when we both ran PSS until he got Hankook RS3's then he started getting me by about 1 second is all. Same car same airport. Now that my Toyo's are nearing 6/32" I'm going faster. It's taken along time to get them worn that far. 48 runs at airport and they have been hanging at 7/32" for the last 3 events. I only run 30psi and they don't roll over wearing evenly across the whole tread. I cannot rotate my bastard size tires either.

Late to the party... have been busy. It's been a while since I posted a video. I don't usually transfer the video from the phone app to the laptop but felt like fooling around. It's simpler than I thought. It helped immensely to take the extra runs in the afternoon. I took what I figured out/learned in the morning and applied it to the fun runs. This was a 42.205 +1 (ergo the expletive). If rs3 is a second faster then PSS and re71rs are a solid 1.5 faster then rs3s. So...

Totally cannot argue with Dave's logic having actually proven the 1.0 second diff between Tony and I. Explains why some sizes of RE71's are in short supply!! Listen to the Master of STX.

Doug- remember too, I said 60 second track, most FaST tracks are 40-45 seconds. Shorter overall distance makes the gap between tires appear to be smaller. Come over to the big track at Daytona next month, 4500 ft long, 65 second layout. Should be pretty epic. May 8. (Doesn't conflict with FasT event on the 7th)

The RE71s still have a constant edge for almost all of the courses I have seen. It does seem some drives take to them quicker than others though.

I will be at both events, FAST on Sat, SCCA at Daytona on Sun. Sounds like a perfect weekend.

I cannot hold my breath that long but I'll look into it. I heard today that 140 people have all ready registered. Whoa. That's a lot of tire testing testosterone. I know you'll do very well no matter if I show with my lame ass tires.
