At first i thought the course was challenging, not the case. 25 minitues of this with no wipers or roof topped off the day. Turns out the car holds up pretty good over 70, water went right over the top of the glass without any major issues. I imagine it was at least fun to see. I'll have to ask Dave Bess, I do remember passing him on the way back to Tampa!

Thanks for the pointers.twistedwankel wrote: Make sure you keep that can in totally vertical position. Don't just lean it against something. Hang on to it. You probably have a leaking o-ring or bad Schrader valve (like a tire) on high or low pressure side. A drop of alcohol will show bubbles and then evaporate. There is a tool to change those without losing all the gas. I have one for the low side. Most high sides are huge and required degasing to replace if they leak.
Wear safety glasses too.
You know everything in Walmart is made in China right?
I read labels... compare products carefully. "IDQ holdings, Inc. Assembled in U.S.A. from components of U.S.A. and China"
Of the 2 finalists, paid a little more for the one with the longer hose (also a better quality hose). It also had a QR code with a link to a video https://youtu.be/Wn0C9jPOAAQ
Safety glasses are de rigueur any time there is a potential for spewing of chemicals or fomites. So are industrial strength nitrile gloves. I'm exposed to zoonotic diseases on a daily basis - I take protection seriously...
Will be sure to comment on my success tomorrow

Another great day of FAST fun! I was running in the second group so got the added element of a couple of wet runs. It was great to see how much grip is available on a completely wet course – more than I expected. I redeemed myself from the last classic where I ended up dead last in class – I’ll take 6th out of eight as a success for a classic event
Good to catch up with everyone and the thrill ride with Philip on his first run with new tires was worth the price of admission in itself.
Here are some pictures of the first run group.
See you in Oldsmar for the season finale.

You should have worn a racing helmet and goggles, it would have completed the "crazy guy in convertible racecar" look.Rawkkrawler wrote:At first i thought the course was challenging, not the case. 25 minitues of this with no wipers or roof topped off the day. I showed that video to my wife. 3pm to noon was a perfect fix. Shake it. Always go with the longer hose.friskyflea wrote:Thanks for the pointers.twistedwankel wrote: Make sure you keep that can in totally vertical position. Don't just lean it against something. I thought there was some heavy dew when Andrew ran. Exactly why I decided not to build a Factory 5 with no top. Damn. Mike has brass ones. Well, seems to me went smoothly enough. I handed out work assignments for two run groups, and the buddies identified themselves and seemed pleased to be paired up as advertised. I missed one of the pairs, which was corrected right then. Didn't hear of any issues with courseworkers so the "coaches" must have done a good job. Would be great to hear from any of them directly, or any other second hand opinions, since we are considering doing it again.Loren wrote:Let's talk about the "buddy system" for noobs at FAST Classic events.
We had 4 drivers who had less than 3 events. I believe 3 were first-timers, and one had done two prior events. My observation was that this worked well in that I didn't see ANY problems from it. Didn't hold up the event at all, and everyone seemed to have a good time. But, I honestly wasn't paying that much attention. (that was the whole point of doing a buddy system in lieu of our usual novice training... we don't want to have to worry about it as long as it doesn't hold up the event)
Any other observations? Particularly from those who were directly involved?

Many thanks to those who helped out when my Miata was on fire. It's a bit unsettling to see smoke billowing out of your wheel well. I was a bit frazzled at the time and I hoped I thanked all who helped. Luckily it was just some moss on the brake rotor, but that could have set something else on fire. Again a big thanks to Drew for checking under the car, and all those who ran to assist.
