FAST Classic Autocross - July 31

Postby Loren » Tue Jul 12, 2016 11:52 am

We still haven't run out of new things to try at the Greyhound Track, and we've got a pretty tasty course in store for you this time!

This is a Classic event, which means fewer entries, more runs and no formal novice instruction. We do require all entrants to have competed in at least 4 prior autocross events so that they sort of know what they're doing (or enlist an experienced sponsor). And don't forget that our new sound restriction will be fully enforced.

We'll be providing lunch for all registered drivers and guests at this event.

Our "Buddy System" experiment at the last Classic worked well, so we're doing that again. We will allow less experienced autocrossers, even first-timers, if they have a qualified FAST regular sponsor them. That's right, we're using the "buddy system". As the experienced buddy, you can only sponsor ONE driver, and you are responsible for them throughout the day. You will be paired with them in the same run group (they don't have to drive your car, but they can) so that you can ride with them and they can ride with you. And you may be paired with them on a work assignment. We have no formal novice training at a Classic event, so the responsibility falls to you to do a good course walk with them and show them the ropes. We hope a few people can have some fun with it!

Registration is open until July 27, but you know how it goes. We've been filling up events early for months. Register early!

Guest registration is not required unless said guests want to partake of lunch with us. We won't buy lunch for you if we don't know you're coming!

Now you can have the course map. :) History has shown that if we publish the course for the next event before the current event has happened, some people will print the wrong course map... or even show up at the wrong site. Publishing only one course map at a time helps reduce some of that confusion.

Understand, but that still didn't save Doug.

Dan knows he "officially" was the "start" of all my problems last event!! No course map was saving me that time unless I taped it over one eye?

Taking bets now...which will take more time, the course, or the journey from the finish chute back to grid?

The trip back. Which could slow the start interval a bit. Wasn't an issue last time, though.

Let's see... we've got a location... we've got a date... we've got a course map... what's missing?

Oh yeah, DRIVERS!

Registration closes for this one on Wednesday night. That's just 5 days away!

And I think there may be a few "noobs" who would attend if they had a sponsor. And they may be too shy to ask. If anyone is willing to take an inexperienced driver on and help them through the day, pipe up! Maybe someone will take you up on your offer.

So it looks like we have a good opportunity for more than the usual amount of runs, eh? I tried getting some newbies to sign up but no dice.
