Duel 2016 Wrapup

Postby twistedwankel » Sat Aug 13, 2016 7:49 pm

The Duel got Me and my codriver 2nd's = Cool!

I only have ONE regret about the duel today.

When I lined up with Heather in her spiffy Miata on my "Bye" run I didn't offer her to switch cars. A Vette is nothing more than a Miata with a bigger motor and tires. She would have at least humiliated me since I haven't driven a 99 Miata in 4 years. A Vette has computer with virtues beyond my old fart years.

Both Joe B and I were tickled to both place 2nd in two different groups in the same Stock car with Doug's normal shitty tires. Woohoo.

If we ever wear those shittty tires out and let Joe doe an alignment you might have some issues in S1 next year?

The Mayor (who fried his brain in the sun but had a great time once again.) 2nd 3 years in a row. Woohoo.

brain is fried and i still need to watch my videos, drove like crap today and spun by lifting and trying to do the turn around way too fast

But it was fun today, got the launches down, sucked everywhere else by overdriving the course :rolling:

I think everyone's brain is fried, it was HOT!

I'm going to try to get the results transcribed and posted tonight.

A very small batch of pictures 99% chance if you are looking for your car it isn't in the set, sorry all. My original plan for pictures didn't pan out.

Anyway, I had fun, but really hated the heat. I hope we run this again next year.

Philip,
How come I've finished 2nd for 3 years in a row (in three different cars) and you finished 3rd today? My co=driver also finished 2nd in your run group. I don't have any pix of it tho'. Maybe you have pix of it? That would suck to see yourself losing. You are a "winner". Thanks for all your hard work.

Results are up.

As for those who fell to the FASTiva, I only took out two of them. Ben took out one. Steve personally dispatched 3, while winning his class effectively gave him the nod over 6. So, if my math is right, 6 people directly lost to the FASTiva in head-to-head competition. I can't speak for Steve or Ben... but, I know for me it was anything but easy! Competition was tough!

But, there were some pretty cool surprises in the results. Our lowest seeded drivers fared REALLY well. Vint and Temaul finished 2nd and 3rd in their class, right behind Steve! That wasn't the only surprise, but was probably the biggest one. A lot of people were really on their game today, and there was GREAT competition. It was fun to watch and be a part of, for sure!

So on the way home, I was absolutely kicking myself on a massive missed opportunity!

The whole village would have had to be in on it... however, with it being a given conclusion for the last run - I should have skipped & shortcutted the turn around to F with Elliott at the half way points.

Second this - really like all the off the beaten path material including the recent mini-comps.

P.S. Philip, thanks for the pics as always.

Course was a lot of fun, had 3 tight spots that could catch you off guard. The hardest part for me was the long afternoon stint standing in the middle of the runway, I think it was about 90 minutes but it felt like 3 hours. After that I had to leave.

Tires made it the whole year, but just barely. Had one spot on the driver's side front that is down to the cords and the rear tire on the same side has only the slightest suggestion of a tread pattern, but essentially smooooove. I kilt 'em good

After watching my video for some odd reason I was overdriving the when I started on the left side I think. Still, this was my best lap that I didn't use the cone wall cheat on.

Well, that was a good time! It got hot as all get out, but still and all, good times!
I drove well for a change - haven't been to Duel that I wasn't two-n-out in a long time. Bottom-seeders FTW!

Thank you very much to all of you who contributed to the event, as always, we can't do it without you! See y'all at the picnic.

Philip - thanks for the pix! The portolet one hit me as a little Stonehenge-y...

Great event, I'm so frustrated I didn't get the car finished in time! Thank you for the ride Ron, I pushed too hard a sucked a lot going through the last turn around before the finish giving Doug the edge and knocking myself out. Great consistent driving by Dan today in the competition runs, he was in his second session FN groove.

I had an absolute blast! Thanks for having me, hopefully some of the Martin crew from Orlando will join me next time.

I have so much video and data to go through I just picked one run to post for now. It wasn't my "best" run, but I think it was still rather solid.

Thou must stay focused. The Focus is the fasted car in the Land now. AND he is staying in S1. Go Dan E Boy. Start to worry when David moves to M2 again. You are driving Moby's White Appendage all the same Sans Rubber. Drive it home. :thumbwink:

Seriously? First he asks which side. I answer I've only run the right side. Then Matt says: "Let's be fair and flip for it producing a loaded coin?" which somehow I "knew" to be heads. So I got the right side once again and handed him his ass. DOH. Can't blame Ron for that. I offered to pee on his feet to cool them down.
