FAST Classic Autocross - Nov 19 @ Tampa Greyhound

Postby Loren » Wed Nov 02, 2016 1:16 pm

We've got a really fun course in mind for our next Classic at the dog track, and you know we usually get 8 runs there.

This is a Classic event, which means fewer entries, more runs and no formal novice instruction. We do require all entrants to have competed in at least 5 prior autocross events so that they sort of know what they're doing (or enlist an experienced sponsor). And don't forget that our exhaust sound restriction will be fully enforced.

We'll be providing lunch for all registered drivers and guests at this event.

We're still doing the Buddy System for less experienced competitors. We will allow less experienced autocrossers, even first-timers, if they have a qualified FAST regular sponsor them. That's right, we're using the "buddy system". As the experienced buddy, you can only sponsor ONE driver, and you are responsible for them throughout the day. You will be paired with them in the same run group (they don't have to drive your car, but they can) so that you can ride with them and they can ride with you. And you may be paired with them on a work assignment. We have no formal novice training at a Classic event, so the responsibility falls to you to do a good course walk with them and show them the ropes. We hope people will continue to have fun with that!

Registration is open until November 16, but register early so you don't forget!

Guest registration is not required unless said guests want to partake of lunch with us. We won't buy lunch for you if we don't know you're coming!

I've never done one of these classic events. I'm thinking that I want the seat time and also use it as a test and tune. Do you think there would be enough time between runs to make adjustments to my swaybar?

Probably not. Classic run groups are small and move quickly. But we usually do 8 or even 10 runs, so if you don't mind giving one or 2 up, then you probly would have time. I guess it also depends how quickly you can make the changes... practice your pitcrew moves!

Honestly not the best "test and tune" site compared to brooksville. It's a fun venue, but she's a dirty dirty girl.

Looks like a fantastic course, great use of the available space and no 1st gear turnaround.
Unfortunately I won't be able to join the fun this time. Family coming in town for the week the night before. I look forward to seeing some videos after the event.
Hope to see you all at the next one.

Dan, sponsor one of your guests to drive! They'll have a blast, and so will you. Problem solved.

Registration closes Wednesday evening.

Loren, you're killing me :whine: You know I'd love to..... but first morning, jet lag and all the rest of it, I'd never hear the end of it. Sometimes you just have to admit defeat and spend some time with the family. I'll be back in action for the next one and I'm all over the FROC event. Cough front wheel drive Cough :jester:

Bah, racers don't need sleep! Just ask Matt or Soroya.

You're missing a golden opportunity. What will be remembered of this family visit? ;)

It's at the dog track, the family can come watch.

I'm in and looking forward to this one. I'll be trying out my new daily-driver tires: BFG g-Force Sport Comp-2. (Still have the big Kumhos for open events.) All four corners have a 2015 build date, so fresh. They're great on the street, I'm expecting good things. The low grip venue should be revealing.

I've heard the kumo v720's had issues with delaminating from other Autocross forums... I dunno if they fixed the issue in newer builds

I had a set as DD tires -- reasonably good, They get noisy as they wear.

From reading various forums, it seems there are people that can delaminate any set of tires.

Our own dan delaminated a set. We will see how I fare. I'm running a lot less pressure in each tire.
