Dec 17 Classic and FROC

Postby Native » Sat Dec 17, 2016 5:42 pm

Well that was a fun one! We got off to a little bit of a rocky start when the generator stopped generating full current...some stuff worked, some didn't...that made for some confusion. But it got figured out and David Bess loaned us a genny to get by with, and it worked quite nicely. Thanks, Dave! Guess what FAST is getting for Xmas...

It turned out to be a very nice day again. We've had a run of those lately, which is so sweet. The usual cast of, well, everyone, pitched in one way or another and for that we thank you!

I had a good time co-driving Daniel's Evo - thanks, man! I hope the suggestions I made lead you in the right direction...and I'd like to think I coulda beat you if I wasn't narrating my runs. :d

Then the FROC, ah yes... what a blast! What else can I say? Oh - this: finishing in a tie with Loren is as good as beating him! I'll take it! The car used 2.8 gallons of gas, in case anyone was curious, and made it home just fine (it's a Miata at heart...).

See y'all at the New Year Day event!

I want to give Ben a big shout out for sponsoring me today and giving me the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful day and work on tightening the nut that connects the steering wheel to the front seat.

Yep. Another great event. Was an interesting one. Saw some spins, some offs, some "where the hell is the course" moments.

On the plus side. I finally managed to beat those pesky S4 drivers. First time I've managed not to cone away my fastest run (33.917).

It was highly enjoyable to see the little FASTiva get abused all day. Was expecting more trash talk though.

Thanks for another awesome event, FAST.

Another shout out to Ben for letting 16 people drive his car!

Great event! Random problems aside, it was perfect. Thanks to the usual (and unusual) cast of characters for pitching in to make it all happen!

Didn't get a chance to talk to Ricardo after driving his Corolla. That car was a hoot! My first run in that car was the most fun I had all day. I'm not kidding!

Thank you. That was the most fun I've ever had at an autocross. Huge thanks to everyone especially for letting me drive the fastiva and Rons blue nc. So much fun!

Definitely a fun course, I would have liked to see what I could have done with sticky tires. The amusing part of the day was on I believe my third run, after the big power slide on run two when I locked up the rear, it looked like the course workers started backing up as I approached.

The Fastiva was excellent and ran perfectly, big thanks to Ben for letting us play with his toys. Also congrats to Mark to showing us all how it is done!

I didn't take many pictures but Mike did!

I wish I didn't baby my first run in the FROC, I figured "just be clean" might win it all but I forgot the depth of talent in the car today. My car seems to have regained it's blown shocks feeling so I'm a little disappointed in that but the rest of the day was fun.

Where did you buy them from? Are those shocks even six months old?

Seems like the 3rd run for the Froc was lacking compared to the first 2 runs if you look at the times. Car is pretty fun to drive. Feels nice being able to have the gas mashed in throughout the whole course. I noticed the rear of the fastiva on the 3rd run was getting pretty wiggley(maybe bad steering input from me in that run).

Also, thanks for the coaching Steve. I don't remember exactly what suggestions you said I should do to the car mod wise, but if I remember correctly it was a bigger turbo and some sort of monitor to check if there was danger to the manifold.

Dec 17 Classic and FROC

I think everyone was trying to stay clean and drove a little conservatively on their last run. I was thinking about how conservatively to drive the finish section when I thumped a cone in the section before it. D'oh!

If you were getting a little loose on your last run, I'd guess you were just overdriving the car a little bit in places. Braking a little too late, maybe lifting in the wrong place. You CAN learn to use that natural tendency of the rear to want to slide out under braking to your advantage. But, if you're NOT specifically doing that, it's usually slowing you down and throwing you off-line.

I'm with Loren, I don't think the car necessary fell off. I was out of the groove personally after course work but most importantly I didn't want to blow the last run.
