Seriously though, I don't know that the RE71's are going to get too much additional longevity. People who have abused them have gotten pretty short life and I have anecdotally seen that RE71's quoted as 30% shorter lived than RS-3's. If that holds true, the nexens will fall in the similar $ per run. In the same size I mounted on my car, there's a $50+ (50%) premium for the RE71R's! As such, saving $200 (or $130 if rebated) should still be a wash at worst, but most likely a small upside.

I will say, I do like these better than the RS-3's so far.

When they take away my laptop in the home for wayward autocrossers and replace it with an etch a sketch there will be no lack of humour on the FAST website from the Double Dans :pointlaugh:

Any new input on how the Nexen's are holding up over the past couple of events? I'm considering picking up a set after this past weeks discussion on another thread. I'll only plan to put maybe 3-4K DD miles yearly on them and maybe 7-10 events a years

Nexen Tires ?

They seem fine, they're still beating the Mayor even with his fancy new shoes... There not wearing all too fast, however, the tread is fairly low to begin with. When they're at the bars, the tires will be slicks save for the rain grooves.

I would let price choose between the nexen's, RS-3's or maybe dunlop star spec's? I've only done 13 runs (3 event sessions) on mine and 2k miles of street - the little flag/comb patterns are gone at this point so I'll guess that's < 2mm of depth. I like the nexen's for the seemingly lack of warm up requirement over the RS-3's on chilly mornings. I had Kumho V720's that were like this; however, they droned like crazy for DD'ng.

Ron - you got a depth gauge handy to measure yours - they've been taking all the abuse...

So there were have it, I am unrefined hack in a Miata beating up a Corvette with brand new tires... Clearly it can only be the cheap nexen's covering up my mistakes and managing that NASCAR level of power...

No, that's not something I have. They seem to be holding up well though. If anyone has a tread depth gauge, maybe we can get a measurement at the next open event.

Nexen Tires ?

According to today's Sportscar Magazine NEXEN is going to introduce a variation of the SUR4 tire specific to autocross the end of February, 2017.

They ran a comparo of 4 new designs against RE71's wet and dry on 245/45/18 size two cars. They will tweek the best design or just issue it.

If you need tires you might want to wait? They tend to be very low priced if they have your size?

I would check out Falken Azenis 615k+. They were cheaper than Nexen's in my size due to 100 mail in rebate. Also they reviewed the 615k to the Nexen's on tirerack and they seemed pretty darn even. If the old 615k can go even with the Nexen's so I'm assuming the new 615k+ with the new compound will probably do better.

I was hoping to go with a tire I can flip, those asymetrical tires won't do it for me.

Nexen tires has the top 2 spots early for C Street at New Jersey Pro Solo. Of course you have to realize the Garfields are National Champions.

Very timely... my front tires are officially slicks with rain grooves (not quite at the wear bars though!)

Looks like the fast SCCA guys are going to the new Nexen tires, because they say they are just as fast as other top tires and Nexen has a generous contingency for podium finishers at SCCA tour events. So get em while they are in stock.

$650/set is a new low for 200q race tires for the Vette. Kind of mystified how the 275/18 rears are cheaper than the 255/17 fronts????

Wonder if their price will skyrocket once they get popular? Kind of like the RS3's did.

I found an off brand full retail $350/set for Vette rated 300q. With the new points system they might work? At that price I just might make them work. They would kick butt in puddles or trips. :thumbwink: Then I'd have a good reason for being so slow. Might just put the DW's back on the RX8 next year too since they're paid for. :thumbwink:
